For the Love of Cows and Sandwiches

Gene, there is something I need to tell you. You have been such a good cow to me. You have given me happiness, companionship, and milk. Milk is useful, you see. It is essential to so many recipes, including some of my very favorite ones. It is true that most humans can produce milk under the right conditions, but it's not the same, and can be painful if they are not a naturally-lactating mother or currently in the throes of war-torn famine. You're a good cow, Gene. You're the best I've ever had. I hope we can be friends for a long time more. And... thank you for keeping all my secrets. Perhaps one day I will find a way to teach you how to read. Maybe Peter will aid me in this endeavour. I must remember to ask him.

A sandwich! Aye, I thought I'd never see another one of you for a long, long time, but there you are, sandwich, there you are. So plump and full of meat and vegetables and things I cannot... what is that? Eurgh. But this is exciting! Let me just look at you, sandwich. It's been too long, laddie. Or lassie. I cannae tell. Too long, too long. I hope this isn't going to be a dream like the last time. They need better food on this ship.
