Trilobites!

Written by Anakin McFly

Tobias shook his head. "It's got to be a trap," he said. "That exhibit is millions of years old. They wouldn't leave the case unlocked and open on purpose."

"They have to clean it sometime," Marco pointed out. "Maybe the cleaners went off to get something and left the case open. Come on! They'll be back any second!"

Marco felt jittery. He really really wanted a trilobite morph.

"Jake wouldn't-" Tobias started, when Marco interrupted him.

"Jake isn't here, is he? I'm getting my trilobite morph." Marco went up to the case and placed a finger into the delicate fossilised remains of a trilobite to acquire its DNA.

Somewhat hesitantly and after several nervous glances around him, Tobias followed. He admitted that a trilobite morph would be kind of cool.

The sudden sound of approaching footsteps startled Marco. He knocked over another display tray of fossils and swore as it fell, scattering pieces of ancient rock everywhere. The footsteps quickened. Marco fumbled with the tray and gave up a second later. The only way out was in the direction of the footsteps, and whoever it was would know that they were responsible for the mess.

Exchanging unspoken agreement, Marco and Tobias quickly made use of their newest morphs.

The security guard Yeerk-Controller chuckled to himself as he saw the scattered fossils and the two little trilobites on the floor. "I've got them," he reported into his walkie-talkie, then picked up the fallen tray and placed the living trilobites on it.

Whistling, he returned the rest of the display to its initial state plus two trilobites and cheerfully locked it shut.

Marco the trilobite looked guiltily at Tobias the trilobite.

Soon there was a full-blown trilobite fight inside the display.

"Hey, look!" said Cassie. "Trilobites!"

"Wow," said Rachel. "They actually move! ...And it's looks like they're fighting."

"Pretty cool technology," Jake agreed. "I didn't know they could do that."

"Trilobites," said Ax. "Bite-suh. Trilobite-suh."

They moved off to another exhibit. Jake checked his watch. "They're late," he said, frowning slightly.

"I'm sure Marco and Tobias will be here any minute," Cassie said.

< What do we do now? > Tobias the trilobite asked in angry thought-speak when they were done fighting.

< JAKE? > Marco thought-yelled.

The security guard Yeerk-Controller came up to them and bent down until they were eye-to-trilobite.

"Any more telepathic communication from this direction, and you're history," he said grimly, then smirked and walked off.

"...!" said Tobias the trilobite.

"...," apologised Marco the trilobite.
