Keanu shocker: dad is jailed for 10 years
by Rod Gibson
The father of movie hunk Keanu Reeves has been sent to the slammer for 10 years after being busted for possession of cocaine and heroin.
Samuel Nowlin Reeves Jr. pleaded no contest to the cocaine rap in a deal with prosecutors, and in return, charges of heroin and drug paraphernalia possession were dropped.
Keanu's 52-year-old dad, who's of Hawaiian-Chinese descent, was nailed after cops got a tip that he was carrying drugs on a flight from Honolulu to Hilo, court documents say.
When he got to the Hilo airport, they met him with a sniffer dog that found several ounces of each drug in his bags. To make matters worse, he later told the judge he didn't think he was a criminal because he believes drugs should be legalized!
Keanu was nowhere to be seen during the trial or when dear old dad was led away to prison - because they haven't spoken to each other in years.
"Remember the 1960s burn-out kind of guy? That was my father," says the 29-year-old Speed star.
Keanu was raised in Toronto, Canada, by his English mother and stepfather. His paternal grandmother, Momilani Abrahams, confesses that he's refused to have any contact with her or his father, who abandoned the family when the actor was just 5 years old.
In fact, when it comes to describing his dad, Keanu has two choice terms: "deadhead reject" and "acid-taking goofball."
