Keanu Talks Drugs
Good old Keanu Reeves. Just as most of Hollywood is discussing how tragic Robert Downey Jr's continuing drug addiction is, 'The Matrix' star comes along and puts a cat among the pigeons.
Speaking to Vanity Fair magazine, the revitalised actor says he's "had wonderful experiences" with chemical substances, adding, "I mean really wonderful." Uh oh.
Reeves goes on to say his one-time drug use gave him "personal epiphanies. About life. About a different perspective." Which is nice for him.
His comments aren't likely to go down too well in an industry which remains squeaky clean on the surface but where some major talent suffers from drug addiction. Robert Downey Jr, for example, is due to face a court hearing at the end of the month after he was found in a hotel room with various illegal substances back in November. If found guilty, he could face up to five years in jail.
Both Christian Slater and Charlie Sheen have had well-documented falls from grace thanks to their addictions. Sheen was eventually shopped to the police by his father, Martin Sheen, when his problem became uncontrollable.
Reeves, meanwhile, doesn't go into any details about his drug use, or how long ago we're talking. Expect a formal apology and the "I was quoted out of context" line to be trotted out any day now.
