Ont. woman alleges Reeves may be her kids' dad
Actor's spokesperson rejects claims
BARRIE, Ont. — A Barrie, Ont. woman has filed court documents to secure a DNA sample from Keanu Reeves in an attempt to get support for herself and four children.
Karen Sala, 47, filed notice in the Ontario Superior Court of Justice family branch on Monday, asking for a declaration of parentage from the actor.
According to reports, Sala has known Reeves since age 9, when he was 7, and briefly lived with his family as a teen after running away from home.
A spokesperson for the actor has strongly rejected her claims.
"Karen Sala's allegations are completely false and absurd. Mr. Reeves has no knowledge of who she is," said Reeves' publicist, Cheryl Maisel, in a written statement. None of the allegations have been proven in court.
In addition to the DNA test, Sala is seeking child support of $150,000 per month, retroactive to June 1988, as well as $3 million per month in spousal support, retroactive to November 2006, for a whopping total of $126 million.
"I'm pissed. I just want him to stand up and be a man," the Toronto Star quotes Sala as saying.
It also reports that since Sala says she and Reeves had a sexual relationship before and during her turbulent marriage, she admits it's possible that none of her four adult children, aged 20 to 25, was fathered by Reeves. She says at least one resembles the actor.
By Friday afternoon, the claim had already hit a skeptical blogosphere.
"Heads up, celebrity chasers! Keanu Reeves Jr. may be on the GO bus from Barrie. Or not. They may look at DNA, but I say they speed things up and simply judge his reaction to a bomb threat on a bus," wrote Jerrold, on blogTO.
"This woman is crazy!!!!!!!!!," wrote the always popular Perez Hilton on his website.
But dlisted.com was the most doubtful of the allegations, dubbing Sala "Krazy Karen," and pointing out that she is requesting spousal support in spite of never having wed the Matrix star.
The first court date for the case is scheduled to be held July 6 in Barrie.
Reeves, 44, was born in Beirut, Lebanon, but lived in Toronto throughout his youth before moving to Los Angeles.
