Ryder Lived 'Rough' for New Indie Movie

WINONA RYDER 'slummed it' on the set of low-budget movie THE PRIVATE LIVES OF PIPPA LEE and had to rely on co-star KEANU REEVES to get her to a coffee shop.

The actress insisted on simple comforts when she signed on for the gritty indie movie - but she had no idea how simple they'd be.

She says, "Little did I know I would be in Danbury, Connecticut, without a rental car, living off a highway.

"I had to rely on Keanu, who had the car he drives in the film, to get me to Starbucks - that's how low-budget it was."

Totally. Phooey on Starbucks. I'd be happy just to ride around with him.

Danbury Starbucks (2009-10-24 22:50:40)
Awww come on, Winona! Surely Danbury, CT wasn't that bad a place? At least it had Starbucks, right? Who knows, maybe Danbury even had its own Starbucks City Mug?

As a matter of fact, I kinda collect Starbucks City Mugs. I have one from Chicago which I bought while I was there to see Dogstar, and I have another one from London when I was there for the same reason. I even have one from Toronto! Yup!

What I need now is, of course, a Starbucks City Mug from Buffalo. And one from Hollywood, maybe (if there is one). Or at least one from LA.

I think that's so awesome. Keanu is still a big star, and yet he not only foregoes having assistants on set but signs on for indie flicks with almost no budget. I just have a lot of respect for that.

Hm... (2009-10-25 08:28:38)
It was low budget? I thought it was produced by Brad Pitt? Or am I completly mixing the facts up with something else?

I doubt she worked for free. Couldn't she afford her own rental car? But then again she did resort to shoplifting in the past so maybe she's not good at budgeting her money:)

ahem... (2009-10-26 01:27:27)
first of all, this snippet of an article does not mention the context from which the quote is taken. For all we know, Winona could have been joking ;)
second, Pitt's Plan B Entertainment is listed as one of the producing companies, but why should that contradict low budget? after all, Pitt did not star in the movie himself.
third, Winona did low-budget indies before. she's not a diva or a princess.
so maybe she wanted to underline just how low budget the movie was - compared with the 'usual' standards- and yet they all agreed to make it.

You're right Luca. It just sounds a little odd. It is good that people sign on for the story not for the money.
