'Cheer Up Keanu Day' mobilizes outpouring of kindness for Keanu Reeves, on his behalf
Have you heard? Today is Cheer Up Keanu Day -- the Internet's most recent viral campaign showing that even celebrities need a little kindness every now and then.
The recent photo above of an unkempt Keanu Reeves eating alone on a park bench sparked this outpouring of virtual affection. Fans of Reeves, concerned that something more than just hunger may be going on, jumped to action, posting the photo across the Web with photoshopped images of cats and Forrest Gump to keep him company, leaving thousands of supportive comments, and even creating a Cheer Up Keanu Facebook page with more than 13,000 fans.
"I'm sure he's doing fine," says Daniel Murphy, 21, who created the Cheer Up Keanu Facebook page to advertise the holiday, as reported by Time.com. "I don't really think he's that sad; I just think his work is underappreciated."
And not only have fans stepped forward to send Reeves some love, they've also pledged to do good on his behalf. Indeed, fans have "offered to give money to cancer research, donate bone marrow or organize charity walks in the actor's name."
"At first I thought this was a joke," writes Marlon McAllister on the Facebook page, as reported by Time, "but then I did some research, and he's actually a really supremely nice person ... let's show Keanu some love!"
