Fundamental Films, Keanu Reeves Revving ‘Rally Car’ For China Shoot
by Mike Fleming Jr
Keanu Reeves is in talks to star in Rally Car, playing an American race car driver in what is envisioned as The Cannonball Run set in China. It’s being backed by Fundamental Films. The script was written by Jeremy Lott. He scripted Hood, the Robin Hood pic that Sony Pictures paid $1 million to buy, and which has Jerry Bruckheimer aboard to produce with Adam Goldworm. They are getting close to a director, and I’m told this is real. Stephen Hamel is producing through Company Films, the shingle he runs with Reeves.
Fundamental’s China base makes this a picture ripe to be a Chinese co-production, which is advantageous in many ways including getting the movie played in China and realizing a more favorable theatrical split. Reeves, who’s coming off the irresistible action revenge film John Wick, next will be seen in the Eli Roth-directed thriller Knock Knock. A sequel to John Wick is mobilizing as well. Action on this one will heat up during AFM. Reeves is repped by CAA; Lott, who is rewriting Man At Arms for Jonathan Liebesman to direct, is CAA, Aperture Entertainment and attorney Gregory Slewett.
