8 questions for (motorcyclist) Keanu Reeves about his boutique bike shop
by Susan Carpentr
Whether it's avenging a puppy's killing as "John Wick" or voicing a thug's kitten, Keanu Reeves has played a lot of roles in his decades as an A-lister. But one of his favorites has nothing to do with the big screen. It's co-founder of the boutique bike shop, Arch Motorcycle Co. At the tail end of a ride and a sit-down interview with the 51-year-old actor, we asked to do a motorcycle speed round.
The Ride: Number of bikes you’ve owned?
Keanu Reeves: Gosh. I don’t know. It used to be that whenever I would work, whatever city I was in, I would go to a used bike shop and buy a bike and sell it back after, so I’ve had a lot. If you’re a collector, I don’t have a lot of bikes, but I would say it’s over 15 over the years. I’ve ridden a lot of different kinds of motorcycles.
The Ride: Number of cars you’ve owned?
The Ride: Top speed ever reached on motorcycle?
The Ride: Full face or half helmet?
Half helmet if you’re a civilian and a full helmet if you’re gonna do some business.
The Ride: Most embarrassing thing that’s ever happened to you on a motorcycle?
The Ride: Caught doing what?
You know, whatever you do on a motorcycle when you don’t want to get caught.
The Ride: Longest you’ve ever gone without riding?
I started riding motorcycles rather late in life. I was 22 years old. Since that day, there have been days when I haven’t had a car. I’ve just ridden a bike. I don’t know. Not very long.
The Ride: Your best day ever on a bike?
Gosh. I’ve been really fortunate to have some of those. Can I do two? One, I love Norton Commandos, and I got a 1973 850 Norton Commando, so for me my first favorite ride in LA was Sunset to PCH through the Santa Monica mountains, maybe a little bit of Malibu canyon, a little Mulholland, eventually coming back to Las Virgenes, go to 101, over Laurel Canyon, back to Sunset and drive home. We’ve done that ride here with Arch going through the Santa Monica mountains. But a couple years ago, Gard and I were in Austin, Texas, and we were asking around where could we go for a ride. We were with Formula 1, and we went on a ride, Marble Falls. Oh my gosh. We got on it and that was FUN. A magical day.
