We offer an exclusive interview with Keanu Reeves at the Michelin Pilot Experience in Palm Springs, California. Here's what the famous actor from the Matrix trilogy and many other films told us about his passion for engines, especially for his Arch Motorcycle.
Let’s start with memories of your first car. What comes to mind?
Well, I have so many memories, but today I am reminded of my journey in 1985 from Toronto to Los Angeles with the hope of becoming an actor.
If you could choose today to take a one-week trip through the United States, which car would you choose and where would you go?
I own a Porsche 996 Carrera 4 and I’d choose that to travel along the Californian coast until the Redwood National Park, and then getting back also along the coast and finally to my house.
Your perfect playlist for this trip?
The Clash, Joy Division, and Robert Johnson; blues music in general. I like it a lot.
Returning to the car: what can you not do without in a car?
Nothing, as long as it doesn't move too slowly!
What car do you drive on a day-to-day basis?
I prefer to ride my Arch Motorcycle, but if necessary I use a 2013 Porsche 911.
What other passions do you have besides cars?
My work and my friends, without forgetting my Arch Motorcycle.
Is there a movie role that you have not yet played, and that fascinates you?
Macbeth is one. If I could choose I would have wanted to play Han Solo in Star Wars.
Why did you decide to create the Arch Motorcycle?
It's always been a dream of mine to build this company from scratch, and I found the right person, my partner, with whom I realized this dream.
How long has it taken to get to the Arch Motorcycle of today?
About 4 years for the whole process of design and prototyping to the finished product today.
Why did you choose Michelin tires for Arch Motorcycle?
We evaluated several choices but Michelin seemed to us the most suitable in terms of performance and stability.
Speaking of emotions related to your passions, what is happiness for you?
A good job, when things go well with friends and family, sharing a meal, a bike ride and never stopping being creative.
What do you hope 2017 brings for the actor Keanu Reeves and for the man behind the mask?
For the actor, I hope that people like the films I'm in, while for the man, to continue to be the creative person I am. For Arch Motorcycle, that it can continue to be successful and exciting for its customers. I want to add that Arch Motorcycle not only creates bikes but also customizes them upon customer request.
What's a ‘spur of the moment’ comment you have about the Michelin Pilot Experience event, of which you are a special guest?
Well, the event is fantastic, and it’s great to have the opportunity to drive these supercars. One could get lost between Audi, Ferrari, AMG, and so on and so forth.
We know that you have been to Tavullia to visit the VR46, Valentino Rossi's company. Is there a possibility of a collaboration?
No, I'm a huge fan, and there was this great opportunity to meet him and then to see him compete last year at Phillip Island, which was at the same time an unique opportunity to introduce the Arch Motorcycle to real motorcycle fans and to enter the magical atmosphere of MotoGP.
Will we ever see the Arch Motorcycle in MotoGP?
Never! We prefer to focus on our customers, producing small volume but high quality, around 100 units per year.
