080823 - ON KEANU NOT PLAYING HIMSELF

Anakin McFly: You said: "He’s never performed a role so well that I forgot I was watching Keanu Reeves, because he’s just not that good an actor."

That's a matter of opinion. You have the right to have it, but other people are allowed to disagree. For me at least, there have been many films in which I managed to quite successfully forget that I was watching Keanu: the Matrix trilogy, the Bill & Ted films, The Lake House (surprisingly) and several others.

You said: "His performance in this film will be the same as his performances in every other film: he will be playing Keanu Reeves playing Keanu Reeves playing a vague facsimile of another person who probably behaves very much like Keanu Reeves."

Does this mean that you're secretly a hardcore Keanu fan? Or do you know him personally? If not, how on earth do you have any idea of what he's like in real life?

Because anyone who knows anything about him - fan or otherwise - knows that Keanu's characters are not at all like him in the least. At all. Really. People who have worked with him and/or met him have often expressed surprise at how different he is in real life than he is on screen.

So much so that I have a theory that for most of his films, Keanu plays a character X playing a character Y; sometimes the Y facade breaks and you see X, but you never see the real Keanu.

Meanwhile, it continues to baffle me how any properly-functioning person can think his characters are all alike. Just... okay, just go here and read the thing.

And yes, Keanu is very intelligent in real life, if you were wondering.
