Also, if you live in Bowery in NYC, you may even lend Keanu your apartment:

No more info about the movie as of yet, except that it's an indie of a sort.

IMDB now has Generation Um listed, but the info is only available to IMDBpro users. Anyone have a pro account?

Written and directed by Mark L. Mann, the film tracks a day in the life of John (Reeves) and two beautiful companions as they immerse themselves in sex, drugs and indecision.

... that line just sold the movie to me ;) :D

later edit :

Keanu's character goes on a journey of self discovery with his two friends, as they live life on the fringe of society.

The film follows one day in the lives of the characters, who are immersed in sex and drugs and spend their days in bars.

... definitely sold. :D

Keanu was once asked in an interview whether he'd show his pee-pee if a scene called for it. The answer was that yes, he'd do it if it was important for the scene. But there would be no gratuitous pee-pee showing, he said. I just tried to find the article - I'm sure it's in the archive somewhere - but no luck.

I'm wondering if Generation Um has scenes were we get to see him in his bare essentials. Somehow I doubt it. They'll probably make some "artsy" sex scenes with blurry, quickly changing stills, or something such like. Oh well. I'm still going to see that movie, that's for sure. :-)

voyeur I may be, but it's not the veiled promise of pee-pee shots that sold the movie to me. it was the part about the journey of self-discovery.

that's not to say I'd complain if... ;) :D

Seems like the movie has links to Henry's Crime in the form of HC producer Lemore Syvan and co-executive producer Alison Palmer, so I'm guessing that Keanu got involved at the last minute, so to speak. With him on board, maybe that's what got them the funding to get the project off the ground. That could explain why there was no info on IMDB until they actually started shooting the movie. I wonder how big the budget is.

As an aside, the "Generation Um" title seems a little odd considering that Keanu's 46 years old while Bojana Novakovic and Adelaide Clemens seem to be children of the 80s. They're almost a generation apart. But Our Man played a 30-year-old in Pippa Lee, so I guess that won't be too much of a problem.

1. His character is named John. This is awesome.

2. But regarding the sex and drugs and possible gratuitous pee-pee showing... :\
Think I'll give this film a miss.

@inkhuldra - the article isn't in the archive. I think it was a video interview.

If he keep his current hairstyle/stubble for this movie, he'll look almost exactly like Bob Arctor, who we also saw doing drugs and having sex. There was even a tiny, fast-forwarded glimpse of pee-pee, too.

As for the movie, I guess it's mostly about the guy, John. The actresses don't seem experienced enough to have equal standing with John as far as the movie's focus goes.

I read a thought-provoking article a few months back, about women's roles in movies. It mentioned Point Break as an example of a movie where the female "lead", Lori Petty's character, is only a plot device to "build up" the male hero. She doesn't have many lines of dialogue, and it's almost all directed to or about him. I wish I could find that article again. Except for her, it's basically an all-male movie.

I guess that's one of the major issues I have with the vast majority of movies: the female characters aren't part of the story in their own right. They're mainly there to flesh out the male characters, and the story is centred on the guys and their journey/story/whatever.

I'd love to see a sex, drugs and rock'n'roll movie with a premise like "Generation Um", but with the female characters played by experienced actresses with names of their own. The impression I have of the movie so far, is that it's about a guy named John and the things he consumes: drugs and sex. I don't expect the female characters to get fleshed out much, except physically...

Oh well, I'll watch it on the off chance that there'll be some glimpses of gratuitous pee-pee among all the lingering shots of gratuitous tits & ass. ;-)

funny, I thought of Bob Arctor too :D

but when reading the two-lines synopsis of the movie I also thought of Richard Linklater's 'Slackers' and of Hunter S Thompson and ... that sort of thing.
The movie's title seems a bit ironic to me, as in not a generation in terms of age but as a state of mind.
Wouldn't jump to any conclusions at least until I've read a draft of the script.
speaking of which... anyone found anything on the net yet ? ;) :D

Somebody needs to stalk Keanu as he leaves the set after work, pull him into an alley, knock him out, and steal his script. We clearly need it, so he should understand. A bump on the head is a small price to pay.

A small bump for Keanu, a big catch for WINMkind!

Just FYI, that test is not reliable. And it should not be pertinent to ANY of Keanu's movies since he has done more to champion women in movies than any other male actor. Female stereotypes are something he appears to be very aware of.
This may be your website but you are working my nerves Anakin.

First up, Deadline reports Voltage Pictures is following their Best Picture winning movie The Hurt Locker with a project called Generation Um. Mark Mann will write and direct the story starring Keanu Reeves as a man with two beautiful female companions as they spend a day immersing themselves in sex, drugs and indecision. Bojana Novakovic (Edge of Darkness) and Adelaide Clemens (Mad Max: Fury Road) take the two female roles as Voltage hopes the film picks up steam for awards season next year.

Just FYI, that test is not reliable.

Yeah, it's unreliable for single movies; to quote a friend, it's more a litmus test of an entire culture. I just linked it because inkhuldra was talking about how most movies in Hollywood tend to have male protagonists with female characters relegated to the love interest or other minor roles; it had nothing to do with Keanu or Generation Um.

And it should not be pertinent to ANY of Keanu's movies since he has done more to champion women in movies than any other male actor.

The test says nothing about the actors in the movies, just the movies themselves, and not even the specific movie but an overall average over a lot of movies produced by a particular culture (e.g. Hollywood). As others have pointed out, it also doesn't always say anything about how feminist a movie is either - exploitative lesbian porn made for men would definitely pass the test, for instance; meanwhile The Matrix barely squeezes through, but it has some of the strongest and most complex female characters in movie history.

Though I would hesitate to make the conclusion that Keanu has done more to champion women in movies than any other male actor, because (nothing against Keanu at all) there are many who have done more, actively working in organisations to promote female representation in Hollywood and so on; and like the claim that Keanu is the worst actor ever, absolutes are always arguable. Again, this is nothing against Keanu, and I would not expect him to go out of his way to do all that because he's under no obligation to, and as things goes he is already one of the better actors out there when it comes to matters like this. As far as I know he's always well-meaning and would never be intentionally sexist.

I'm really sorry if I got on your nerves in any way, because I recently came out of a very similar discussion about another actor and ended up kind of depressed after it despite the claims being largely speculative and probably unfounded, so I don't want to put anyone through the same.

... may I throw in my 2 cents ? although no-one asked for it?

please let's cool it with the feminist thing. Art is art and movies are movies and the artistic value of them should not be judged by whether they promote females or feminist values.

ARYA - yes, that test is not 'reliable', as Ani pointed out. It's just someone's point of view. And no one criticized Keanu or Generation Um. It was an exchange of remarks between inkhuldra and Anakin about 'the vast majority of movies'.

can we just live and let live ?
thanks.

And maybe Keanu is the pro in these matters? We are just along for the ride. And I have enjoyed the ride baby.

luca,
Just in case you missed this line when you said "no one criticized..."

"2. But regarding the sex and drugs and possible gratuitous pee-pee showing... :\\
Think I'll give this film a miss."

That is called criticizing.

The only thing Keanu is selling is his movies. If he wants anything from the fans he wants us to see his movies.
