Ha! I say, HA! Not only is Keanu not dumb, as Side By Side proved most conclusively, dude also can act. We HAVE been right all along. Ha.

Thanks LucaM, and from this article 'I had as much fun watching Man of Tai Chi as Reeves clearly had making it.'

I have mixed feelings about this first paragraph but overall ABHIMANYU DAS seems to have bought a clue and rolled out a thoughful review from over there in India.

Yes indeed Arya, just to be honest the first paragraph is total nonsense,
but I like the way the author writes about Keanu`s debut as a director. ;-)

Yeah. "Amazingly enough, Reeves, when steered right by a brilliant director and the right casting, can be effective in his highly limited way. "

I'm so sick of that crap. And who, one might well ask, was the brilliant director, the genius producer, responsible for Reeves being so effective as Donaka? I've said it before and it bears repeating - the fact that most people find Keanu a lovely human being and he conveys a thoroughly unpleasant, arguably evil, villain is some indication of his skill. I've also said that a huge amount of what he's doing as an actor is so nuanced and thoughtful that most moronic critics and moviegoers miss 95% of it completely. They are simply not paying attention and, I suspect, have no interest in being shaken out of their bias against him.

How long did pretty much everyone in the industry write him off as an idiot for passing on Speed 2? Until the foolish thing was released and immediately tanked, and then many seemed really pissed off that he'd been right, instead of going "huh. Dude is pretty smart. Let's listen next time."

Thank you for that MmeRenard. Brilliant!! That`s EXACTLY what I feel...

Was the article edited? The first paragraph doesn't have the line you mention.

Sorry, no, it's not a quote, it's a generalized paraphrase of what we've all seen God knows how many times. The article does, however, say that Keanu can be sort of effective with the right director and casting - I was just pointing out that, in Man of Tai Chi, the brilliant director and person responsible for good casting was in fact Keanu.

I suppose I can only state my own opinion, as I have no links to any film reviews at the moment. Silly me waited for a theatrical experience, only to stumble upon it in the "on demand" cable menu. I intentionally did not read any reviews preferring to form my own.
I was most happy to actually love this film. Yes, it did have some inferences to other movies from the past. However, it was both multilayered and filled with symbolic imagery. Like any other memorable film, it made me think and wonder and self argue for a couple of days. Plus it had some great ass kicking Kung Fu action. What could possibly be better that that?
