Richard Ramsey – The Whole Truth (2016)
Who does really know him? Almost no one calls Richard Ramsey by his first name. Although he is a successful lawyer, he lives in a hotel and eats takeaways. No one knows why he choose to be a lawyer. No one knows why he does what he does. We know a little that he has an unhappy past. The past that does nothing to his emotion, but maybe does something to his head. Don't be fooled. He is really cunning, just like a lawyer.
Don John – Much Ado About Nothing
While Benedick has Beatrice and Claudio has Hero, here is Don John a lonely prince longing for affection and seems to be sick with all the lovey-dovey around making him plans a plot which not only destroying people around but also himself. The story might had been rolling differently if Don John has at least a romantic partner or one object of affection. Along with Donaka Mark and Donnie Barksdale, here is one of our charming villainous characters whose name starting with 'Don'. He is good in oil too.
Henry Torne – Henry's Crime (2010)
I know someone like Henry in real life. Maybe that is why I love this character. Not asleep nor awake, he had never fight for something simply because he had never had a chance to find something worthy to fight for ... until he met his muse! From there, suddenly the story becomes increasingly interesting and amusing. Oh, and I loooove the ending.
John Wall – Generation Um (2012)
He wants to say something, he wants to do something, and he wants to create something ... but he is just stuck. Something withholds him and it has nothing to do with the outside world. John could have had a better job or a better life, but he downgraded himself. We can always sense the ambience of melancholy following everywhere he goes. Maybe John creates his own 'cloud' of sadness. He needs to make up with himself, and in order to do that he needs the reflections made by people and nature around him. The only time he is being articulate and spontaneous is when he feeds and plays with his cat. Dogs and squirrels like him too. I feel everybody likes him, but he does not look happy. He was a bright student, is good in tinkering, and curious of the world. The thing is, John feels something is wrong ... but he cannot quite figure out what is wrong. It seems that John will keep looking out, wandering and let others talk until he finds the right words to say something about himself.
Klaatu – The Day the Earth Stood Still (2008)
One thing about Klaatu had bothered me for some times. I was suspicious he had a feeling for Dr. Helen Benson. Why he kept seeking for her in the entire film? Was it because she was cute? Was it love? Klaatu is not as cold as I expected to. I thought an alien should be as emotionless as a machine. I forgot that he is not a machine, GORT is. I forgot Klaatu might have experienced "imprinting". You know, the attachment that being created as soon as one is born into this earth. That is possible since Helen was the first person he saw on earth. In this case, Klaatu definitely behaved like a newborn. I had never thought about that. Interesting!
Tom Ludlow – Street Kings (2008)
The world is a dangerous place, that is why Tom chooses a career as a policeman. He has a strong sense of justice and is instinctively protective of the vulnerable. He knows how criminals think and act; and he is also 'eloquent' in their language too. For him, being bad to bad people equals to being good to good people. Violence for Tom is a mere tool to silence the culprits, making this world a less troublesome place.

But he does not know that he is also in trouble and vulnerable, too. Sleepless nights, bottles of vodka, and uncontrolled aggression ... all telling how helpless the man can be. He cannot forgive himself of failing protecting his wife while spending his life protecting others. He knows the pain of not knowing, but he hates to know too. Ugly shirts he wears, Tom does not care. He has too much mess inside of him that the last thing he care is to impress strangers by his looks.

John Wick – John Wick (2014)
John Wick has a child's heart and emotion, an old gentleman's veteran experiences, and an adult's goal-oriented strategic mind. Only Helen knows the soft-side of him. Thus, when she is gone, the rest of the world ... and his enemies, see him as a shark.
Kai – 47 Ronin (2013)
Kai is a hopeful hopelessly-in-love man. His life is full of hardships, but he does not let these troubles change him into a monster. Despite of the "half-breed" label he carries along the way, he deals with it with more grace than of some short-tempered noblemen he had encountered throughout his life. Kai appreciates any given slightest hint of respect and love he received, and is willing to pay more than he needs to ... even with his own life.

Kai is smart too. Not only street-smart (or war-smart, to be precise), but also heaven-smart. He knows it is impossible to be together with the woman he loves in this life. Thus, he decides to clean his master's name, help his friends, and die in honor ... with the hope of joining Mika, his love, in thousand different lives to go. This way, he wins in every way.

Scott Favor – My Own Private Idaho (1991)
While only Scott knows what is going on inside his head, I believe he has a good heart. If he acts differently from his family, friends, or audience's expectations ... it is because he does not feel any need to have their approval. He dislikes being defined and authorized. Scott wants control over his own life. Watching carefully throughout the film, I see Scott always takes care of Mike, tries to be honest and sincere to him. He loves his best friend, even if not in a romantic sense. Scott might also be this "unidentified guy" who pulled over his car and picked up the poor and fainted Mike by the end of the story. To be honest, I learn from Scott more than from other characters in My Own Private Idaho.
Donaka Mark – Man of Tai Chi (2013)
Donaka is powerful, intelligent, leads a zen-like yet luxurious way of living ... but he is damaged, probably crazy. I feel pity for him, especially because his money can buy anything he wishes, but nothing can quench his thirst for power and more power. He likes watching people struggle for life and die, since he is envious towards their humanity and innocence which already lost within himself. That is why he keeps saying, "you owe me a life," because he has everything but a life.
