Merry Christmas! | ||

And the forecast for tonight and tomorrow says, more or less: "Snow-chaos to come. Stay at home unless you absolutely HAVE to go somewhere. And if you do: be patient and drive very, very slowly. Gonna take you a LONG time to get anywhere." Yup, 'tis winter!

There were +15 C degrees And this happens at 47 degrees N latitude. A few years ago we used to have snow too, and lots of it... ... the weather's definitely going insane :(

The greenhouse effect is making the weather go haywire here in Norway, whether it's manmade or not. OK, two feet of snow in a couple of days isn't rare here in the village of Nannestad in the interior "Eastland", but I just came back from the south coast (the "Southland"), and they had the same amount of snow. Not normal. NOT normal!
Not to mention how we had less than a week's worth of sunshine this summer. Very strange in the interior Eastland, which should be at least partially protected by the the Westland (i.e. the western coast of Norway, with tall mountains that makes the rainclouds empty themselves on the westside). The weather's certainly not being normal anymore -- but what's "normal" in the long run? Norway was covered by miles of ice during the last ice age, but the climate was temperate before and even to a certain extent after then, and the bronze-age coastline was several hundred metres inland compared to today. Climate changes are normal, and climate "crises" are only for those species that can't adapt. We, the human race, could handle this if we weren't so bleepin' numerous! Anywoof, I don't worry that much, because I don't leave any children behind. My two sisters did their "duty" in the bloodline respect, so I can live happily and childlessly to the end of my days, not worrying about how any offspring would fare in these climatically challenged days. But, to get back on topic: We're approaching the year of 2010, but it's still too early to wish you all a happy new one. So enjoy the last days of 2009, and prepare yourselves to typing 2010. Feels very strange to my 2009-adapted fingers. :-) |
