I didn't even own my own computer then, and everyone was still on dialup modems. The real geeks saw it coming and got access to T1 lines. I used to go to a web cafe for several years. It was kinda cool. I remember it was funny cause back then it was 3$ CND per hour of internet usage.

I got a state-of-the-art computer after a friend who studied comp tech showed me the then still rather embryonic internet. Cost me US$5,500 but it was worth it. My first modem was a 28,800 bps while most people were still using 9,600 and 14,400 modems. I felt *so* high-tech!

I think the first word I ever searched for was "Keanu". That was on the Usenet newsgroups, because the web hadn't really caught on outside of universities and the US army. My website, when it got up and running, had mostly .edu and .mil hits at first.

Wow, imagine how the world has changed since then! Today the Web grows by a rate of approximately 50,000 websites per second. My mind boggles.

Mine included. I am finally trying to get my site up and going for my art and jewelry. Any tips on that one would be appreciated.

A lot of people don't realize it but where I am (close to the great lakes) means that we have the largest group of fibre optics running under them that connect to Washington DC and NYC so there has always been a great deal of internet in London. As well we carry most of the trunk lines for north america - which means almost all 1800/888/900 numbers go through london. Explains all the stupid call centres.

I remember those times back then - people were so niave when it came to the internet. Any tidbit on Keanu was thrilling. It was great to hear about how he was doing etc. And ya there were wackos but not like now.

I remember a very heated discussion on what 3 things Keanu would want if stranded on a desert island. I don't know why but ketchup was always included. Go figure. Ah yes the 90's what a weird time that was.

I was dark angel. In short on Mirc it was DRKAngel

Wow, I remember your nick. You weren't, by any chance, among those who converged in Chicago while Keanu filmed Chain Reaction there? We were a fairly large number of Gardeners having dinner together. I think it was Tonia who set the whole thing up, as she lived in Chicago.

I too remember the "3 things on a desert island" thread. Ketshup seemed to be a favourite item, for whatever reason. I'm going to have to see if I can find the e-mail log on my dino-computer. Then again, I'd probably spend the rest of my life re-reading everything.

Wow. Keanu really does inspire loyalty doesn't he? I've been around since 1994. It wasn't until I discovered the Chateau though, that I became a little obsessed. Just about everything I ever learned about Keanu, I discovered there. Not really sure what year that was. Seems like forever. I was always too shy to talk to anyone though. Just started posting some a few years ago. I have Seer to thank for that. After reading her thoughts, I realized that there are a group of "older" intelligent Keanu fans out there and that I shouldn't be ashamed to make myself heard. So thanks my friend, Seer:) And since coming here, I realize there are also "younger" intelligent Keanu fans (Ani, I mean you:)) out there too. You just have to go looking for the right sites. So wonderful to have friends of all ages and from all corners of the world.

By the way this one is for Ani -sure you'll agree. First time I ever posted on line in a forum was to defend Ke for Chain Reaction. He took such a bad hit on that one and it was most unreasonable. I said something to the effect that with a script that has been rewritten several times while in production, major changes in direction and in studio presence how do you expect something to turn out. Besides keanu's performance begs to ask the question what treasures ended up on the cutting room floor. I still like Eddie. Brings out the Canadian in me.

I haven't watched Chain Reaction. :(

Read the script, though, and it didn't seem interesting enough for me to search out the movie.

And this whole discussion is extra fascinating for me because I'm currently working on a research paper about fandom and the Internet, and how fandom changed over time with new technologies becoming available.

Thanks for sharing all that info inkhuldra. I feel like a newbie compared to your years on the net gathering keanu info. And Anakin is younger than springtime! I often say that Reeves attracts people of all demographics.

Anakin~~~The newest release of CR on bluray is very cool. Connects with the clean energy theme with pop ups during the movie about energy. It pairs very nicely with TDTESS.
And good luck with your research paper. You are right, fandom has changed a lot with new tech stuff out there. But in the end I think its still more about the fan than the object of their fandom. :)

I have not gone through this whole site but I do want to mention
Keanuvision that is no longer active but has a wonderfully archived site. I was there every day... and shout out to Krix who was a great keanu blogger.

@ Anakin, I was just looking for a place to say congrats on your foray into the world of keanu picture gallery...and have you graduated from college this year?

Excepting for my brief time as a twitterer, no I have not heard from Krix. Since I was communicating with Nettie, maybe a year before she died, so I did hear of Krix doings from time to time.

Hi!
I've got one more year of college to go.
I managed to contact Krix via Twitter. She lent me wee!Neo, whom I've since passed on to another fan as she suggested. :D
