The bodacious language of Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure
2014-10-11 17:24:36
The delicious article/birthday confection above solved a riddle for me a: how could B & T give the flavor of graffiti to words often associated with the SAT's? How give a poetic edge to slacker slang? But slang is a slippery thing, moving back and forth across the boundary that separates "proper" from "improper" language . When I lived in France, it was a great delightto find that French argot is poetry, rife with vibrant images, delicious metaphor. And that is just slang - cursing is even more extreme .It is exactly as the Merovingian puts it : "like wiping your ass with silk".

... of t.v. series: another assassin character, Rain. And if I'm not mistaken, Rain is, like Kai, multi-cultural - Japanese and American (or anglo-European?).

The serious journalists actually hope the headline editors won't get too flamboyant. Reporters are much more interested in the byline, in what gets chopped for space, and in whether the story makes it above the fold (in the now quaint world of newspapers). Also, before sneering at the profession, we need to take a moment to remember the reporters who gave their lives in the service of truth. This month alone will do.

.... Branagh said something about the way that Keanu moves through, inhabits space being hypnotic. But the rhythm of the dance becomes subtly different as you move through your fifties. Statelier, perhaps. So I want to know: Are we there yet? can we have MacBeth now, please? please? KC has said a couple of things about the Scottish play. 1) When he thinks of his age, he asks himself if he has the gravitas for MacBeth yet and 2) when he thinks of things he wishes he had done, he thinks of playing and filming MacBeth. C'mon, Keanu - time to make that call to Tilda Swinton.

"Outsider? Yes....Everywhere I turned out to be a loser". When K calls his private life 'boring' I hear "lonely". But the interviewer dropped Keanu's self-aware, candid statement like a hot potato. Shame on her.

Isn't it a shame that paparazzi at Cannes became historical over Keanu's weight gain instead of the gravitas he had gained by becoming a director and spending many months in China, absorbing the culture and giving many interviews.
