Ah, indeed one of my all time favorites too! He's soooo sexy in that one. *blush* I remember reading in an interview that Rachel Weisz said she is a big fan and she kept trying to kiss him, even when it wasn't mentioned in the script. Don't know if it's true, but if I was Rachel, I would've! :-)

Good image to start the weekend ;-p

Sad thing indeed, that a fellow countryman of mine said that! *blush*
But it was to be expected, not everyone gets the kind of actor KC is. Nor the script choices that he makes.
And Japanese-like films are not for everyone, one has to look beyond the end of one's nose! The review is just so superficial.

I remember there was a tv show on Belgian television when I was just a little girl and it was about a Japanese (I think?) woman, just a soap about everyday life. I was so fascinated by that. My grandmother used to watch it every day.
Brings back memories ;-)
It had the same "atmosphere" as 47 Ronin (but less beautiful), you know the restrained passion that is not allowed to come out except in an honorable fight or act? You feel the same thing when watching 47 Ronin. If you let yourself get carried away by the story you can almost "taste" it! I think that is why I like it so much.

I admit it's an acquired taste. But I just think a review like that is disrespectful to all parties involved. (yes: it means that I got upset about it!)

"On valium"? Please. Come on! KC would have had his head shopped off, for real, if that was the case. (anyone who had seen the links Arya posted would agree!) Would like to see the guy who gave the comments do a fight like that himself. He clearly doesn't get it.
As for the story line, there is some truth to it, I suppose.
In one scene, for instance, Mika gets a bottle of poison. It doesn't get mentioned again, which is quite odd.
But when you look at the deleted scenes, then suddenly there is this scene in which Mika tries to poison Kira and it becomes crystal clear. So there people have a point. There are some holes in the story.

There are probably more things like that, that I missed because I was so excited to finally see the darn thing! ;-)

Honestly, I too missed the "blood" in the last scene. From a pure esthetic point of view it would have been marvelous to see the clean and pure white kimono's turn a beautiful dark red, more poetic. It didn't have to turn into a "Kill Bill"-scene ;-) But you know, it was kind of the point when wearing white clothing, no? It was the thing that you were waiting for. (Not that it is ever nice to see KC die in a movie, but if he must then it better be spectacular: better to go out with a bang then with a little "poof", no?)

But I still think it was a beautiful movie. I quite liked the whole Japanese vibe. KC fitted right in!
All just my opinion of course.

FINALLY got to see the movie this weekend...what a long wait. But it was totally worth it. Beautiful filming, locations were stunning, costumes amazing and KR was sublime! So glad I pre-ordered the blue ray now. Still waiting for that one too. Ah the anticipation ;-)

MmeRenard, you are so right.
What the hell was that? I'd rather not read things like that again. I got very upset about it.
I mean, why are people so judgmental, jeez...?
I can see that WINM is in fact a very good thing!
But it is sad indeed that people seem to have so little respect for one another.
I think that they forget that famous stars are just people too.
Luckily for him, I think that K doesn't read too much of this crap himself.
He's right about it too, one can have a nervous breakdown for less, no?

You are so right!
Sometimes when I watch a Keanu-film with my friends or husband, they never seem to get what I get or see what I see.
(for my hubby to not get excited about Keanu, I get that, but my girlfriends!???) ;-)
You know, the moment you get excited about a detail, a facial expression or a "hint" and they go like "what do you mean?"...Of course it helps if you've seen the movie a couple of times, haha!

That's why it's oh so nice to meet up with some kindred spirits here!!!

Hello everyone!

Maybe sounds stupid but, I have some pics on my pc and every time I get a case of the blues I just browse trough them and instantly I start feeling better.
Never could figure out just why that is ;-)

To be in his mind? I don't really know...maybe a bit much to take...;-)

But you're all absolutely right, there is so much more to him than meets the eye.
I love the way he can transfer a thought, a train of thoughts if you will, just with the raise of an eyebrow, where others might need a thousand words.
Every move he makes in a movie is intentional. Every detail counts. That is why you can watch his masterpieces over and over again and discover something new every time, never getting tired of them.
There are not many other actors that really go "so deep" in their movies.
I guess if people think he's shallow and on the surface in his movies, they just don't understand him or the movie at all!!!

The picture is truly magnificent, by the way.

Hello everyone!
