simple things

It is amazing how the simplest of things can make your day. Today, I had a voice lesson in New York and I had to wake up really early to get there. I felt extra tired today, but forced myself out of bed. I wasn’t in the best mood today and was not feeling that my voice sounded its best today. I got on the subway, after waiting a while for the C train to come and when I boarded, took a look around at the people on the subway. I love seeing new faces so I always take a quick glance around and then I stop looking, but this time there was a face that I had to keep staring at. It looked to me like it was Keanu Reeves. He had a scruffy, big beard though and pretty regular clothes and was reading a newspaper. People kept getting on and off the subway and no one else was even glancing at him. I started watching him closely and remembering his mannerisms that I had seen so many times in movies. (The Matrix and Sweet November are definitely two of my favorites.) He seemed to be reading the paper over and over again, even when he was just about to put it down. I knew that it had to be him. I wished that I could have the courage to get up from the opposite side of the subway and walk over and talk to him, but I didn’t want to cause a scene.

As I got off of the subway at 34th street, I took a glance from outside and knew it was him for sure! He looked at me and gave me the peace sign and as the subway left, he kept on waving to me. It made my day and I almost wondered if it made his a little too because so many people hadn’t recognized him. It was such a simple thing but meant so much.
