So, I've been a fan of The Anu since...uh, let me count backwards a moment... 1999. I was 11, a tiny little sheltered sixth grader and burgeoning geeklet, on my first school trip out of town for the regional UIL 'tech bowl' competition in San Angelo, Texas. As we were scheduled to compete later in the evening, our coach turned us loose to see all the other fields of competition including engineering, CAD, and multimedia presentation. (Hey, our match-winning question was "what does HDTV stand for?" so things like Powerpoint were still pretty freakin' cool.)

One of the computers, this behemoth of an eMac, was set up as a kiosk display with several buttons to click on. One of the features of the setup was the Morpheus/Neo dojo fight sequence from the original Matrix. I had never seen this movie, but knew it was vaguely about hackers. But what struck me-- being on the precipice of puberty-- was the lithe, dark-haired guy with smooth features and sublimely expressive eyes. No matter how my teammates distracted me, no matter how fun it was to watch balsa wood towers and the hearts of their builders get systematically crushed by computerized weights, I kept coming back to this console, and this video, and this guy. In fact, the last time I saw Keanu's face on the trip was as I was being dragged away from the screen by my coach, because I had lost track of time and was late for our match.

I've pretty much only gone downhill from there. ;)

Over a decade later I'm still building my collection of Keanu's films, still enduring the same tired ridicule that everyone seems to think is so effing clever (You like Keanu? hur hur hur, I know king-fu, whoa man, herp derp"), and STILL waiting for Cowboy Bebop. What's really...I can't decide if it's cool or just creepy, but I remember in high school when the tide of live-action anime adaptations started rolling out, I declared that I would refuse to see my favorite anime brought to life unless Keanu was cast as Spike Spiegel. Some of my friends are still convinced that he heard me.

I used to be at Club Keanu every day, but over a few years and a jealous boyfriend or three, as well as generally being board of, well, boards, I sort of faded off. But the other day, I had this awesomely strange dream. I very rarely dream of celebrities or people I don't truly know, but when I do, 75% of the time it's about Keanu. Once, I was sitting in an overgrown courtyard with him, in an abandoned outdoor mall that was in reality adjacent to my childhood home. I was eating lunch alone, and he walked up, asked if the seat was taken (yes, in an abandoned mall courtyard) and began comparing playing bass in Dogstar to creating a fine oil painting. In the dream I watched his hands dance in front of him as he explicitly illustrated his words, in that way he does, and my inner monologue went "Holy shit, I'm sitting here talking with Keanu freakin' Reeves!" and spaced out, watching his fingers and his lips move. Then he dropped his hands, looked me in the face and asked "So, what do you think about it?" My brain froze, but my mouth muttered something that obviously wasn't "HHNNNNNGGG OMIGOD I LURVE EWE,", because the last thing I saw before I woke up was his pensive, yet contented smile.

This, however, was years ago. Out of absolutely nowhere, I had a dream that I was at some convention being held in an airplane hangar. I was standing in line to meet someone, but didn't know whom. Eventually the person in front of me moved and there was Keanu, lounging behind a foldout table. I swallowed as to put my heart back in my chest instead of my throat, and approached him, saying "I've loved you since The Matrix, and I just want to thank you for everything you do." Shaking his hand, I realized I was completely insignificant and uninteresting, and the best thing to do was just get the hell out of there. So I said "I'll leave you alone now, thanks." But as I turned to go, I processed that Keanu hadn't released my hand, and had uttered a single word: "Wait." I turned to stare at him, and he tightened his grip. "This has gotten boring. You wanna get out of here?" Even in my dream, all I could do was nod stupidly. He slid around the table, still holding my hand, and bolted through the crowd, avoiding his agent. After that, things go a little fuzzy, but I clearly remember that no matter where we went, and even when we sat in the front row before the screen that was to premiere 47 Ronin, he held onto my hand, occasionally squeezing it. It was one of those dreams that is theoretically 'normal' and within the rules so it felt incredibly real as I experienced it. The last thing I remember clearly was Keanu saying "You know what? These people are a bunch of disingenuous, parading pricks. They suck. If I'm gonna watch my own film, we're gonna go to a theatre like everyone else. What's the smallest, dingiest place you know?"

So for the past two days I've been on a Keanu kick. And I discovered WINM while looking for the Two Lost Souls sketch on Google.
I am SO INCREDIBLY GLAD that someone took the time to put together this site. It's slick, beautifully designed, disarmingly witty, has a stunning amount of content and is just plain awesome. I knew after clicking through just a handful of pages that I'd be signing up for the forum, because anyone involved in this site understands my bottomless respect and admiration for Keanu. So thanks to you, Anakin site-admin-slash-designer-slash-overseer-in-the-sky-person, for giving me a place to go again, where people just get The Anu. I can't wait to meet you all.

...Okay, this is my favourite introduction post of all time. OF ALL TIME.

Glad you found WINM, and welcome! Did you manage to watch the Two Lost Souls sketch?

I declared that I would refuse to see my favorite anime brought to life unless Keanu was cast as Spike Spiegel. Some of my friends are still convinced that he heard me.

XD
Years ago, a couple of my friends kept trying to convince me that Spike Spiegel looked exactly like Keanu. I said I couldn't see it. I'd never seen a single episode of Cowboy Bebop back then, but then when the news of the live action film came out they were all "I TOLD YOU SO". I've since seen about 12 episodes after another Keanu fan I know online dragged me into her Bebop obsession. Ein is my favourite character. :D

Thanks for sharing your story! And those are some epic dreams. Keanu would totally watch his own films in a dingy theatre.

:D Hi, Anakin!

Yes, I did manage to locate the sketch on YouTube. No matter how many times I watch it I am overcome by the warm fuzzies.

Bebop is great; it's very short, only 24 episodes and a feature film so if you get the time I highly recommend finishing the series. I don't watch a lot of anime but it is probably my favorite of all the series I've seen.

I agree that was a good introduction! Welcome Aldrea. I totally believe the artist that drew Spike originally was thinking of Keanu at the time and I still hold out hope for that movie to come about...

Hi Aldrea,

Very nice to meet you, I have to admit - yours is my favorite intro also. Sounds like a really cool dream. I dream about him too, but I can't go into detail here

This part:

Over a decade later I'm still building my collection of Keanu's films, still enduring the same tired ridicule that everyone seems to think is so effing clever (You like Keanu? hur hur hur, I know king-fu, whoa man, herp derp"

literally made me laugh out loud! Absolutely hilarious! Welcome :)
