Forum Posts: 52 Comments: 40 Reviews: 0 | I am sitting here a little stunned, if it was not so strange I would laugh out loud. My 70 year old father who has always told me "I don't like Keanu Reeves he is a pathetic actor" has just come up stairs to ask me if I have ever heard of 'Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure'. He just saw a small part of it on a TV show he was watching and now he want's to borrow my DVD. Should I give him 'Bogus Journey' to watch as well?

Does he know that it's Keanu in it? How many Keanu films has he seen to declare him a pathetic actor?

Forum Posts: 52 Comments: 40 Reviews: 0 | Ani, yes he would have known Keanu was in Bill & Ted because he would have asked my mother first and she would have told him before telling him to go up stairs and ask me about it. As for how many of his movies my father has seen, no idea. I remember him seeing Speed once but beside that one I don't know. He generally prefers old black and white movies from the 1940's and 1950's (don't ask what he said about the remake of TDTESS) and thinks music died with Buddy Holly. I have to admit I do wonder sometimes if his suffering with dementia has something to do with it? His short term memory is not good but his long term is fine :(

Forum Posts: 1364 Comments: 153 Reviews: 0 | Guys, I have just made the most excellent discovery!! You know that scene in The Matrix, where Thomas Anderson's at work and getting directions by Morpheus on how to get outta there? Well, I'm just watching Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure for the first time in more than 10+ years, and about 1:10 hours into the movie they're at the sheriff's office, where Ted's father's the sheriff, right, and B&T need to rescue their historical dudes? And they're receiving a fax from themselves telling themselves to duck, right? So watch that scene in The Matrix and tell me how the Wachovski brothers got the idea for Thomas trying to get outta there. It's almost the same scene! Excellent, dudes!

Forum Posts: 1364 Comments: 153 Reviews: 0 | Awsome! Yeah, it's too obvious to be a coincidence. The Wachowski brothers, with their constant references to other cultural phenomenons, probably would never have made that scene that way (and it was totally hillarious and slightly "out of tune" with the rest of the movie - and I did notice that at the time, actually) unless it was a nod to something... like B&TEA, for instance. Awesome!
Now, this gives me another excuse to watch The Matrix all over again. The last time I watched it was a week ago. Am I hooked? Nah, never! ;-)

ADMIN Forum Posts: 3076 Comments: 405 Reviews: 1 | That scene was already in the 1996 draft, so it wasn't a Keanu-induced thing because he hadn't been casted yet.
It actually didn't strike me as that obvious. :\\ Unless of course this is the Bill & Ted reference that is mentioned on various Matrix places. I'd always assumed it was the rooftop whoa. EDIT: from the IMDb Matrix movie connections page, it apparently also references Johnny Mnemonic, and is referenced by The Watcher and Hardball, with the comment for the latter being: "Reeves's character references the names Anderson and Smith, his name and his nemsis name, respectively, in Matrix, The (1999)." He did?

Forum Posts: 1364 Comments: 153 Reviews: 0 | OK, but the W brothers did approach Our Man about the role as Neo. Given their background, wouldn't you think that they'd have made a connection between that scene and whatever reason they had for approaching Keanu about the role? They must've seen him in several movies, and B&T would have been a rather iconic movie for them, as it was/is for so many other people. I haven't read the 1996 draft, but was it written out as detailed as it ended up in the movie? Like, with Morpheus telling him exactly what to do and when?

Forum Posts: 4842 Comments: 381 Reviews: 13 | frankly, can't remember if Hardball mentions any Anderson or Smith. But the latter is such a common name, it might be just a coincidence...
I never thought that Matrix scene referenced the Bill and Ted movie. Yes, the scene is a bit odd, but I took it as one of the first clues that nothing is what it seems ;) oh, the whoa... apparently the tendency is just the contrary : whenever a whoa is in a script and then Reeves is cast as the character saying it, the whoa tends to get cut :D It happened with the Constantine script ;D
