http://www.guysnation.com/quest-for-75-the-day-the-earth-stood-still-30-of-75

He[Reeves] wasn’t trying to over-act in The Day The Earth Stood Still, and honestly I can’t imagine too many other actors in his role. In watching the special features for the film, I actually got a lot more respect for Keanu Reeves based on his professionalism and approach to getting this movie made.

I had the same reaction when I saw it. :D Sans the opium tea.

Baby steps... soon they will see the light. Hopefully.

Why opium tea?

Do you know how hard it is to type with one hand?!? I twisted my wrist and now I can't move my fingers w/o a lot of pain. :(

... which confirms my theories/suspicions about the script polishing process.
I still like the ending that we got to see, though.
... so the script that got leaked on the net was Derrickson's rewrite ? hmmm.

... and that article leads to this

http://nextround.net/2008/12/keanu-reeves-and-the-lost-art-of-bad-acting

drat fishes :(

The day we’re finally named movie execs at a major studio our first matter of business will be to green light a project starring Keanu and Nic Cage as federal agents attempting to thwart a terrorist attack on the Hawaiian Tropic Pageant. It’s gonna be a new classic.

... now THAT is something I'd like to see ;) :D

Michael Rennie’s original Klaatu is an ambassador with a simple message: kill each other all you like but if you come anywhere near us with your weapons we can end you in a moment. Even after he’s been shot twice by humans — the second time requiring a full Christlike resurrection from the dead — he’s willing to get back into his spaceship and leave peacefully, having done nothing destructive to the planet beyond powering down machinery for a few minutes.

A very very nice alien!Sounds like a fairy - tale.

Keanu Reeves’s Klaatu is the Ultimate Suicide Bomber, sent by some alien Osama bin Laden. The New Klaatu claims to want to save the earth — but he makes Hitler look like a nice guy

Our man can be proud for his really good acting! Not every day you can be compared with Hitler and Osama bin Laden. And no one thinks that Klaatu is a positive character.

P.S Besides, I haven't met any alien who was more alien than him. His "alienness" is unsurpassed so far :D

And no one thinks that Klaatu is a positive character.

I did. at least for the first 20 minutes or so. Even after that. Not as much positive as... implacable. As someone-er-thing that would serve certain people an upgraded version of '...for the greater good'. To me, that was the 'catch' of the movie- which most reviewers failed to 'get'.

After reading a few of that writer's articles ( and browsing that site I found out that the man is a sci-fi writer, screenwriter, journalist, etc) I think I'm getting a vague idea of where he's coming from, so to speak. That doesn't mean I will agree with him.

Besides, I haven't met any alien who was more alien than him.

^^^ THAT.

it means 'see above quote'.
I guess.
At least that's how I saw it used on various forums and picked it up :D
what I meant is 'what the above quote says; I totally agree with it'. but that's too much to type ;)

Thakns, will be taken into account for future. It's a very useful smile;)
And about "positive character": I should add there IMHO.Because I felt sorry for him all the time but at the same time knew he was the enemy of humans and that doesn't suit to a positive character(IMHO again). The film is not among the best in cinematograph, but that is film makers' fault, not actors'(they all did the best).

well, the film has its good moments, and its low ones. It's a mix of factors and conjuncture; the script was written at the studio's order, it's not a scriptwriter's 'labor of love' and it shows; then it was a victim of the screenwriters' guild strike; then there were the 'creative differences' between screenwriter, director, studios and, I dare say, Keanu... It was Derrickson's first attempt at directing someone else's material. All in all, it's a decent film and I admire Derrickson for saying that at the end of the day it's his name and his team and his work and if it were nominated for an Oscar he would have been all me, my movie, etc, so it's only fair and square that he assumes the flaws of the movie as well.

Besides, the way people react to this movie tells more about themselves than about said movie ;) :D
