my first tought was that they want to make a version played by human beings.

in that case maybe keanu plays a character.

Seems to be a lot more 'out there' about Pattinson and Akira than K, although at least one source says K has gotten the role :-/.

I'm wondering if he's going to be behind the camera in some fashion? There's word that the thing is going to be expensive, so maybe he'll go the producing end again?

It said he beat out Pine, et al, for the main brother - but I can't imagine K in anything other than an older adult role - not that I know anything about the comics ;).

Deadline is reporting that the script for Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures' Akira has been sent to a short list of actors.

To be directed by Albert Hughes, Akira is based on anime artist Katsuhiro Otomo's six-volume graphic novel masterwork. Filming is targeted for an August start.

The site says that the script has two major roles. For the role of Tetsuo, Robert Pattinson, Andrew Garfield and James McAvoy have been given the new script. For the role of Kaneda, Garrett Hedlund, Michael Fassbender, Chris Pine, Justin Timberlake and Joaquin Phoenix have received the script.

We should know soon whether two of the actors in those groups will sign on. Who do you think the roles should go to?

interesting article.
we could hope another actor signs for the part of Tetsuo ( I like McAvoy).

justin could be a good kaneda and plus a friend of mine is his big fan. :)

I think we are ready for a movie with McAvoy, Timberlake and Reeves, aren't we?

yes, you're right...I didn't consider this side of the problem. :)

I like the story, the characters and whole idea of Akira. the dystopia and genetic exsperiments stories are interesting and they could be told to today audience with the same impact of the '80s. maybe much more impact.

@gulbie, I agree! In general if the descriptions say "dystopian" or "post apocalyptic" and most importantly "starring keanu reeves", I am going to the movies!
