So stocked. First movie was elegant action with European flavor of revenge/assassination flick. Fact that second movie is set in Rome just adds more awesomeness to this. It is nice to see Keanu find his place where he belongs - and yes, he is very good physical actor, and he *can* deliver lines and *can* act if he is given proper physical way to do so.

Chris Rhines I was at a local 2-gun match last weekend. One of my squad mates was shooting for the first time. When I asked what brought him out, he said that he'd seen the video of Keanu training for John Wick 2, and thought, "That's awesome, I want to do that!"

You can't support the sport any better than that.

How did they meet? Was she aware of who John Wick was and what he did for a living? Did she ever know of the legend and the reputation that he had? And if so was she also involved in this world? There are just so many fascinating questions there.

Speaking of your film work, I'm very excited about John Wick 2. What can we expect? You have a role bigger than the first one I hear?

Well, I'm kind of the only one left from the first one. This is same kind of premise. It's not like two years later, but pretty soon after the first one. Keanu [Reeves] is a great guy. They got this terrific Italian kid, Riccardo Scamarcio, who plays the chief villain, who's excellent, and we have a lot of stuff together. And the guy who directs it, Chad Stahelski, is really smart. He's been Keanu's stunt guy for [nearly] 20 years and he's studied muay-thai. He's got every stunt man who's available for [this film]. The action looks like it was done by somebody out of Hong Kong instead of Hollywood which I always think is a great sight.

And so, the story is again a vengeance premise, to some degree?

Keanu gets a new dog. But yes, it's about what comes on him after that. It's all about the assassin's code, if you like. He's killed a Russian gangster and now there's a contract out on him, so it's a continuation. I loved the first one. This could be even better than the first.

I think the same simplicity that you keep talking about is what made John Wick so popular, and you are in the sequel for that. What appealed to you about getting to work with Keanu Reeves again?

STORMARE: I'm not in it much. Me and Keanu have been friends for a long time. He flies under the radar, like me. He does a lot of odd projects and independent movies, and people never understand what the hell he's doing and why he's not doing Speed 9 or The Matrix 6. He said that, because people love making three movies, he wanted me to be the main character in the third movie and for people to meet me in the second. I really love his work ethic, and I like the way he portrays himself. He's not a big media guy. He went to China and did a movie with a Chinese cast, and people here don't even know about it. It's a fantastic movie, called Man of Tai Chi. He's one of the actors/directors that I really respect. He's a guy full of ideas. He's working independently, like myself, and if you walk your own path in this industry, you feel a lot better than if you're just doing things for money.
I can’t talk for him, but I know that he's been offered so much money to do Speed or The Matrix again. It takes some courage and some soul-searching to say, "No, I want to do my own stuff. Do I need a bigger house? Do I need another car?" For him, it's, "Do I need another motorcycle?" And he says, "No, I don't. I'm not in it for greed or money. I'm in it for longevity and to do the things I'm passionate about." And the same goes for me. As an actor, you have to do things out of passion sometimes. I'm not in it for a lot of money. I could have done it for that, if I wanted to. But I only need one car, and I'd rather work with people I really do respect and admire. And if you walk that path, you don't get written about too much in the tabloids, and I'm good with that.

The presentation also featured an extended special look at John Wick: Chapter 2, introduced onscreen by Keanu Reeves, who promised bigger action and grander locations than the first outing.

I don’t think anything’s changed today, it’s just more hidden behind red tape. I have to talk about something else with you, which is that one of my favorite films of the last few years was John Wick, and I obviously –
LEGUIZAMO: I love that film.

Oh, dude, the movie’s fucking awesome.
LEGUIZAMO: Incredible, man. And it’s interesting because the script was okay. It had something, but you were like, “eh,” but it was those directors and Keanu. The directors and Keanu got this love of action, they bring out the best in each other, they bring out the best in everybody, man. I had a ball making that movie and I had a ball making John Wick 2.

Oh, yeah, we’re going to get to that in a second. I definitely want to as you though, you’re on set of the first one, you’re thinking, Chad [Stahelski] and David [Leitch], this could be good, like what’s your reaction when you see the finished film because I caught an early screening, I didn’t know anything walking in and I was just shell-shocked when the movie was over. I was like, “I cannot believe what I just watched.”
LEGUIZAMO: I gotta say, it’s happened very few times to me, I think Chef was the other time that it happened, that I read the script where I was like, “I like this, it could be something.” It wasn’t like, bells went off, love at first sight kind of thing, it wasn’t that. But then I go see the movie, I go see Chef, and I go, “this is a masterpiece. How the fuck?” This guy, it’s all the director, man. And they caught lightning in a bottle, man. Just figured out how to capture lightning in a bottle. Because Keanu’s performance, it’s one of his best performances in like 15 years.

Oh dude, I can’t say enough.
LEGUIZAMO: He did his own stunts, and that’s huge when an actor does his own stunts, which I’m not going to do. I’ve been hurt so many times I don’t have the balls for it anymore. But he’s doing it, man. He’s going in there, because when you do a stunt, you’re going to get hurt. Just guaranteed. I had my neck hurt for like five years, I could barely move my neck from doing this stunt, I almost died twice doing stunts, it’s really dangerous, man. It’s really fucking dangerous.

Yeah, a lot of people actually don’t talk about that but, the fact is, just think about being in a minor fender-bender, it hurts. Let alone being on a set where sometimes you have to do it like 5, 10 times.
LEGUIZAMO: Right, and you start getting tired and your judgement changes and you’re getting more adrenaline and just shit happens. The more times you do something, the more likely it is you’re going to get it wrong.

I have to ask you about the sequel. Obviously I’m sure when they asked you about it, it was an immediate “yeah.” So, do you have a bigger role in the sequel, what can you tease about it?
LEGUIZAMO: I mean, I get twice as much screen time as last time. Exactly twice as much. [laughs] This time I’m in six scenes.

[laughs] Are you giving Keanu a new car? Maybe this time it’s a tank? What’s going on in the shop this time?
LEGUIZAMO: Uuuuh, I’m giving him some new stuff. I’m giving him what he asks for. I’m not allowed to really say, but I’ll tell you this, instead of punching this time, I get punched.

Listen, my last question about it though, in the first one, Chad and David did it together. And in this one it was just Chad.
LEGUIZAMO: Oh, I know.

So what was it like just having Chad on set?
LEGUIZAMO: Well, you know, I missed David of course. The two of them work so well together. But Chad is a beast, man. He’s a fucking beast. He was so on it, he was so cool, he was so collaborative. I think in some ways it was more freedom. And I think artists do best with more freedom. So I think it might be rawer.

On another totally superficial note, it's hard to believe this guy and the one in The Whole Truth are the same, because he looks kinda old and paunchy in that one (but still attractive).

On a more important note, I'm not making the mistake with JW2 that I did with the first one. Definitely catching the sequel in the theater. :)
