Speed, the hit adrenalin-rush action film, comes to DVD as special edition

: A lot of it is actually the same as the final, though, and Yost once mentioned that Whedon rewrote "98%" of it, which was probably an exaggeration, but even then...

Joss Whedon was never credited, so his lack of name doesn't mean anything.

Not to mention that the deleted scenes mentioned in this article had actually been filmed, which seems to indicate a shooting script...

The quote is here:

That may have been what Reeves was seeking when Fox presented him with Graham Yost's original Speed script. He wasn't initially enthralled. "The character [of Jack Traven] was very flippant. There were situations set up for one-liners and I felt it was forced — Die Hard mixed with some kind of screwball comedy," he says. "I said, 'I'm not really interested in that. I think we can do better.

De Bont brought in Joss Whedon to rework the script by removing the glib retorts and making the character more earnest, per Reeves' suggestion. "'

Those scenes were kind of minor; I couldn't even remember whether they had been in the final film or not.

is the first time I've heard that Keanu got stitches for punching through that car window. o/

And, as this pre-Hardball article says (http://www.whoaisnotme.net/articles/2000_0809_noe.htm), Keanu has never been doubted for his ability to show up. He has discovered the secret to life.

"When I press him about his past, he resists for a couple of minutes, staring unhappily at my big tape recorder on the table ("the dinosaur", he calls it), then splurges forward in an uncomfortable mixture of semi-revelation and parody. The following is delivered as a totally uninterrupted monologue:

"Oh, wow. O.K., so here we go. I lived in New York City until I was six or seven or eight. I grew up in Manhattan - Upper West Side - and then I moved to Toronto. That’s where I spent my misspent youth, my spent youth. I spent my youth, my youth was spent. I’m a middle-class white boy... a bourgeois middle-class white boy with an absent father, a strong-willed mother, and two beautiful younger sisters. ... "

I like his continuing nightmares of what people would write on his tombstone.
