The Private Lives of Pippa Lee

2014-07-19 20:20

Wow Anakin, thanks for your analysis! That was really interesting.

Of course, it doesn't change a thing, just an interesting detail. I am also living in a country where a lot of ethnicities can live in peace and I love it. Not to mention the many handsome guys you can see on the streets :-)

Okay, I stop talking about this topic, I promise. Thanks for your patience.

(Sorry, it's me again in the middle of a chat...part 2)

MmeRenard:

My personal opinion is that Hawaiian is pretty Asian, although it's my understanding that Keanu is more Chinese than Hawaiian.

I know that this is offtopic again - but Chinese? Do you mean that he looks like a Chinese person? Not important at all, just wondering, of course.

I fondly remember a time when people could disagree, quite strongly, in this forum and still be respectful. There are recent posts in this thread that have nothing to do with the film and are simply poking at a new-ish poster who made a long, elegant post about Pippa Lee. I seriously wonder why some people are here. If someone isn't here to discuss Keanu's films and or doesn't like Keanu, perhaps they could find somewhere else on the internets that is of more interest.

:-))) Did you mean me, for example? If so, sorry if I seem to be not that respectful...but I am Trinity and I don't respect too many people.

...but you maybe misunderstand me here. "Defending Keanu", remember? I seriously don't want to harm anyone and hope that you also detected the smileys in my previous posts. As for this film, I wrote about it earlier, you are welcome to read all my posts.

And believe me, I love Keanu. I do :-)

Well, I think I need to clarify some details here...

allhailkingjack:

Please enlighten me. Did I use the wrong word or phrase? Is it incorrect or offensive to mention "Asian" in reference to someone of mixed ethnicity (which I know he is)? I wasn't trying at all to insult or demean his looks, ethnic heritage, or anything else. To me, he's handsome as hell and always has been.

No, not offensive - not at all, so please don't worry... It was more like a funny note for me, but I might be wrong.

I just thougt that "Asian" refers to Asian people, that's all. That can be my ignorance since everybody here seems to agree that Keanu _is_ Asian and "Asian" really means "mixed ethnicity" (of anything). I am not a native English speaker - as you can see - and this is something totally new for me (and not too logical, to be honest).

But again, do we talk about Hawaii, don't we? And Hawaii is _not_ in Asia, am I right? As Wikipedia says:

Hawaii is the most recent of the 50 U.S. states and joined the Union on August 21, 1959. It is the only U.S. state located in Oceania and the only one made up entirely of islands. It is the northernmost island group in Polynesia, occupying most of an archipelago in the central Pacific Ocean.

Or shouldn't I look for any sense here? :-)

And YES, he IS handsome as hell :-)))

His Asian ethnicity**
?

I wonder if you mean Keanu's

a) Hawaiian father or
b) English mother? :-)

MOVIE RECOMMENDATIONS (non keanu)

2013-05-22 18:24

Anakin, I agree with you therapist.

As a bipolar myself I need to defend The Silver Linings Playbook...it is giving a very good picture of a bipolar person, but it is almost entirely focusing on the manic phase (we can only imagine what happened in the mental hospital for example, during the depressive phase - the only weak point for me). On the other hand, every person is different, everybody has different backgrounds & symptoms.

Actually, the director's son is bipolar. That also means a lot, I think.

I feel nothing but pity for the person who was watching Bradley Cooper's necklace all the time. This way you miss the message of the film for sure. And how many times need somebody watch the film to collect all these "major" errors? :-))) Must be a real torture for him/her, but a self-chosen one :-)

Bradley Cooper was great in the film. I was amazed how his face changed from constantly suffering (in the first half of the film) to the more optimistic. I could see my previous self from outside. And all those books from the library! I read ca. 12 books at the same time. Etc. Very good details in overall.

Well, this is my opinion. I watched the film twice, enjoyed both times.

Hey Karamelle, don't hesitate, Henry's Crime is a very enjoyable film...and so human. Also with a sense of humor. You won't regret buying it :-)
Hello

2012-09-11 02:46

Hi and welcome :-)

I hope that we'll see you around here often - I mean writing about things. Anyway, I'm from Sweden (but originally from Hungary).

And I also recommend you newer films like The Lake House, Something's Gotta Give & Henry's Crime. If you have the chance, of course.

So...see you soon!

The Last Time I Committed Suicide

2012-09-09 02:50

I have just finished watching the film and I needed 4-5 times to sit down and watch further. Not my kind of movie, I found it quite boring. No, not quite boring, but VERY boring. Keanu was good, but couldn't save the film.

Somehow I can't relate with Neal Cassady's life and problems and I feel like I wouldn't like Kerouac's On the road either. Maybe I am getting too old? :-)

However there was something positive and somebody on IMDb.com wrote it so well:

In the meantime, one thing will certainly keep you awake throughout this dim, unbalanced, one-letter-long movie : cinematography. Superb ! One of the best I've ever seen ! Inventive, unpredictable.

Here in Sweden it's still 2nd September :-) And in Europe + in America. Actually, it's only 2:15 PM in Los Angeles.

So...have a very, very happy birthday, Keanu!!! I know you don't read us - correct me if I'm wrong -, but it doesn't really matter. Hope that you have a wonderful day with a lot of sunshine and people you love - without any papparazzi or camera flashes. When somebody turns 48, it's not about the presents anymore, but more about health, joy of life and people. And it looks like you have all of them, haven't you? (No answer needed, just if you want to reply :-) )

And yes, Anakin: your birthday pic is really awesome, thanks!

The Baby Matrix

2012-08-30 16:54

There's a relatively new book called The Baby Matrix: Why Freeing Our Minds From Outmoded Thinking About Parenthood & Reproduction Will Create a Better World

Actually, I was browsing books of childfree topic and found this one. Looks really good, I just suggested to our library to buy it (or I will buy it if they don't).

And yes, there are of course a few references to Matrix in the foreword, like:

In the movie The Matrix, the character Morpheus offers two pills to Neo--if he takes the blue pill, he will go on with life as he has before, believing what he has always believed. If he takes the red pill, he will find out what the "matrix" really is, and many of his earlier beliefs will be shattered. When it comes to taking a hard look at a specific set of beliefs about parenthood and reproduction that has driven our society for generations, The Baby Matrix is the red pill.

If you are interested, you can look inside the book here (worth a few minutes):
http://www.amazon.com/The-Baby-Matrix-Parenthood-Reproduction/dp/0615642993/ref=pd_sim_b_5

PS: The author is declaring that she is NOT against people who choose to become parents.

New profile picture on Imdb

Oh, really.

I have to admit that I liked the previous one better, he was so pretty there.
(He was also younger on that one, I assume.)

But yes, I also would prefer a smiling one.
Anyone who can influence IMDb? :-)

And these two pics are way too big, aren't they? I have to scroll up & down (I have a little laptop) and only can see his half face at once...

Big problems of life, huh?

Yes, it is! Thanks for the video!

A bit offtopic, but I remembered the Wachowski brothers (I mean from the Matrix times) as brothers :-))) But on this video Lana is clearly a woman.

Based on Wikipedia (maybe I am the last one to know?):

Rumors that Lana was transitioning gender spread in the early 2000s, though neither sibling had spoken directly on the subject. According to Rotten Tomatoes, Lana completed her transition after Speed Racer (2008).

The Hollywood Reporter and the New York Times have referred to the Wachowskis as "Andy and Lana (formerly Larry) Wachowski", and Deadline.com has referred to the duo as "Andy and Lana Wachowski." On some documents she appears as Laurenca Wachowski.

In July 2012, Lana made her public debut as a woman, in a video discussing the creative process behind Cloud Atlas.
