"See if you can catch yourself complaining in either speech or thought, about a situation you find yourself in, what other people do or say, your surroundings, your life situation, even the weather. To complain is always nonacceptance of what is. It invariably carries an unconscious negative charge. When you complain, you make yourself a victim. Leave the situation or accept it. All else is madness.”~Eckhart Tolle

Forum Posts: 2836 Comments: 74 Reviews: 11 | “Every human thought, word, or deed is based on fear or love. Fear is the energy which contracts, closes down, draws in, hides, hoards, harms. Love is the energy which expands, opens up, sends out, reveals, shares, heals. You have free choice about which of these to select.” — Neale Donald Walsch

Forum Posts: 2836 Comments: 74 Reviews: 11 | The Opposite of Samsara 'The opposite of samsara is when all the walls fall down, when the cocoon completely disappears and we are totally open to whatever may happen, with no withdrawing, no centralizing into ourselves. That is what we aspire to, the warrior's journey. That is what stirs us: leaping, being thrown out of the nest, going through the initiation rites, growing up, stepping into something that's uncertain and unknown. What do you do when you find yourself anxious because your world is falling apart? How do you react when you’re not measuring up to your image of yourself, everybody is irritating you because no one is doing what you want, and your whole life is fraught with emotional misery and confusion and conflict? At these times it helps to remember that you’re going through an emotional upheaval because your coziness has just been, in some small or large way addressed. It’s as if the rug has been pulled out from under you. Turning into a groundless feeling is a way of remembering that basically, you do prefer life warriorship to death.’ - Pema Chodron, Comfortable With Uncertainty.

Forum Posts: 1101 Comments: 48 Reviews: 0 | Pema Chodron is a great teacher, and her books are difficult. I've wrestled my way through a couple - they are helpful but not especially comforting. I think that's the point. She was a student of Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche, whose son Sakyong Mipham is his dharma heir, also a great teacher, a marathon runner and a fine writer.

Forum Posts: 2836 Comments: 74 Reviews: 11 | So glad you like the quotes Bliss. Agree Pema is a great teacher MmeRenard. Just in case anyone is interested there is a selection of youtubes of Pema speaking and I am sure there are some of Chogyam Trungpa and Sakyong Mipham. These people are of the Tibetan tradition although Pema was originally from NJ.

Forum Posts: 1101 Comments: 48 Reviews: 0 | Sorta OT, but the Sakyong is the only Tibetan I have actually met, and is very cool - although that really doesn't convey it very well. He's a rinpoche, a husband and father, a runner - very Tibetan and very Western. Tibetan Buddhism is fascinating, I don't really get the cosmology, but the life teachings are wonderful. Also Sogyal Rinpoche, who was in Little Buddha, has some great stuff.
