The festival runs from 9-19 September, so it should be around that time.

Henry's Crime Official Description

A gem of a comedy that consistently surprises, Henry’s Crime boasts marquee stars playing beautifully between the hum of ensemble acting and bright flashes of movie-star thrills.

Keanu Reeves plays Henry, an unfulfilled man in Buffalo, New York. He sleepwalks through his job...

... at a highway toll booth and his drab life at home. When he stumbles across the scene of an armed robbery, it’s no surprise that he’s swept up by the police, who mistake him for one of the robbers. Unable to muster the spirit to put up a fight, Henry soon finds himself behind bars.

Luckily, his cellmate is Max (James Caan), a career criminal who teaches Henry a thing or two about how to take what you want from life. By the time Henry finishes his sentence, he’s a new man. Now he figures that since he did the time, he might as well do the crime. So Henry and Max decide to rob a bank. Just then, he’s hit by a car. Out pops Julie (Vera Farmiga), the local Buffalo lottery girl from TV. It just so happens she’s also an amateur actress.

It’s here that Henry’s Crime leaps into the staccato rhythms of romantic comedy. The best way into the bank vault is to dig a tunnel from the old theatre across the street. But the theatre is occupied by a small company rehearsing a production of Chekhov’s The Cherry Orchard in which Julie is, coincidentally, starring. So although Henry has never acted before, he has to find a way to join the cast, get the money and win the girl.

Director Malcolm Venville drops all the ingredients into the pot and stirs furiously. The money in the vault is a MacGuffin, so too is the Chekhov production – although Peter Stormare has some hilarious scenes trying to teach Henry to act. What this movie really revolves around is Henry’s awakening, as he realizes that his love for the brash, impatient Julie is the true meaning of his life.

Hmm... seems a little more comedy-like than the script.

Yeah. Either they changed some stuff, or the comedy was more of the physical sort.

Is it my imagination, or does Keanu seem to fit dark and twisted roles like a glove? Not that I'm complaining.

Here's the official presentation of Henry's Crime on the TIFF website, complete with screening times. There's supposed to be a trailer, but I get an ActionScript error message when I try to view it. Anyone else have better luck?

Couldn't view it there, but I managed to download it at this link: http://media.tiff.net:8080/contents/flv/Henry's-Crime-Trailer.flv

It's not a trailer, though, just a film clip about a minute long. :\\ Nothing special; kind of disappointing, actually.

Henry gives off Neo-vibes. I was hoping for better...

If THAT is the only trailer they've got, then doG help them at TIFF. There's little in it to entice people to go see it, and this is where they're supposed to market the flick and find distributors, isn't it? I didn't really catch any comedy vibes to speak of, either.

There has GOT to be a better trailer in the works, and it'd better be on that webpage at the TIFF site very soon. :-/

Agreeing on the Neo vibes too, Ani. I think it would have been cool if he'd have gone for this hairstyle instead:

Then again, it's amazing to see Keanu-as-Henry, 10 years after the Matrix, looking practically identical to Keanu-as-Neo. Our man sure isn't in any particular hurry to age.

the one minute something can be watched also here:
http://theplaylist.blogspot.com/2010/08/watch-clip-of-keanu-reeves-james-caan.html

yeah,in that scene, Henry DOES give off Neo-vibes. sort of, anyway. but then, this is Henry only at the beginning of his transformation. He still has a long way to go. Besides, there's the trademark Keanu smile, seen only for a split second, like the sun through the clouds, and that is a different character.

maybe I'm too much in love with the script; maybe I'm protective about the movie... dunno. But I dare say don't judge the movie based on this one minute. It can be misleading. I'm all for the big picture and context and ... all that.
I remember watching the trailers for Street Kings and then watching the movie and getting a completely different vibe from it.

I say let's give this movie the benefit of the doubt.

Agreed, LucaM. But it's not the movie in itself I'm worried about. It's the clip. Trailers are an important tool in the marketing of movies, and that clip really can't be called a trailer at all. It's just one scene, no narration, no presentation of what the movie's about. They can't have meant for that to be the trailer, I just won't believe it.
