Q: How did the picture wind up with its distributor, Moving Pictures Film and Television? Did they see it at Toronto?
A: They saw it there and bought it there. I think we got lucky because this year there’s been a crop of fairly bleak movies that were very sober. “Henry’s Crime” was a little playful so they bought it.

Whaaa? I remember that getting a distributor did not happen at TIFF.

How one responds to Reeves as Henry will probably determine one’s reaction to the movie. To say that he is laconic is an understatement. He’s practically somnambulant and he might be difficult to empathize with for anyone who has never known the paralysis that fear of conflict or pain or change can cause. Me? I’ve experienced that paralysis. It was called “my 30s” so I found Henry to be kind of identifiable. Your results may vary.
... same here. that's what I meant when I read the script more about one year ago and thought 'I AM Henry'. wish I had his courage, though.

Vera Farmiga meanwhile is the yang to Reeves’ yin. The sour to his sweet. The chocolate to his peanut butter. The hare to his tortoise. The.. well you get the point.
yeah, I do get the point ;) and it's fun when my lousy attempts at reviewing a movie hit the same note with some of the 'published' reviewers ;)
ah, the need for validation ;) :D

Can you imagine that jackass reviewer writes for the NY times and did not get the correlation between the Cherry Orchard and the bank robbery? Or even the restrained way that Keanu needed to play Henry? Beyond cinematography it's looking like many reviewers rely on personal preference for a given film and that critique will be mine alone.

yep.
that's why I collect and post ALL the reviews I can find. about any movie. to illustrate the bitter truth that critique ( film, art, any kind) is subjective.
'we' can't teach these reviewers how to watch a film; or how to write about it. but we can learn from them how NOT to watch a film. ;)

Yet another review. Not particularly positive, but thoroughly written at least.
