A book based on a movie? It might be good as there are a lot interviews.
Personally I bought one such a book (so far).
@LucaM I do not type any book at the moment (maybe in a future?)

Freya - I was paraphrasing the 'did anyone say ...' idiom. Because on web forums we type, we don't 'speak'. But maybe the pun is not as funny as I thought it would be.

LucaM - I can agree with you. Literally we type here.
Today I was listening (rather than watching) the interviews about 'SbS'. It was interesting.

"Side by Side" by Reeves

Film at the Erie Art Museum's fall series opens Wednesday with "Side by Side" -- not by Sondheim.

This is no musical; it's an illuminating documentary that looks at how the digital revolution is revamping filmmaking. Creating movies via film -- the standard way since moviemaking began in the late 19th century -- is giving way to digital methods that yield super high-definition images, eye-popping 3-D, and faster, easier editing.

But is there a cost? Is film stock warmer, richer, deeper? Technology will roll on, no matter what, but it's fun to hear top filmmakers discuss the pros, cons and 50 shades of grey on the subject.

James Cameron (modernist), Christopher Nolan (film lover), Martin Scorsese (traditionalist but digital embracer) and other heavyweights (Steven Soderberg, David Fincher and more) weigh in.

Keanu Reeves -- star of the groundbreaking "The Matrix" -- produced and narrates "Side by Side." Said the New York Times' A.O. Scott: "For a film geek this movie is absolute heaven, a dream symposium ... It is worth a year of film school and at least 1,000 hours of DVD bonus commentary."

Just love the last paragraph :)

From where did that last article writer get the idea that Keanu was a passive interviewer in Side by Side ? *scratches head*

It is difficult to satisfy everybody and when a writer wants to see more 'some heated debate, especially amongst such revered industry figures'

The 2013 Oscar nominations will get announced on Jan. 10, 2013 -- a full two weeks earlier than the 2012 nominations, and before the 2013 Golden Globes ceremony takes place.

The Academy Of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences revealed the date shift on Tuesday. According to the organization, the Jan. 10 date will "provide members and the public a longer period of time to see the nominated films." It also seemingly strikes a blow against the Golden Globes, which while not often taken seriously as an arbiter of the Academy's taste, certainly had been positioned as one of the many Oscar precursors in the past. The Golden Globes are set to take place on Sunday, Jan. 13, 2013, when the Oscar nominees will already be known.

Below, check out the key dates to keep in mind throughout Oscar season. The 85th annual Academy Awards ceremony will happen on Feb. 24, 2013.

I think the Oscar documentaries have a preliminary selection (like the foreign language movies) where there's a shortlist of 15 movies out of which the 5 nominations will be chosen. This shortlist will probably be announced end of November (at least it was last year).

I just found out today that they are showing Side by Side in The Tokyo International Film Festival on Oct 26. Finally I get to see the film! yay!
I am thinking of taking my kids along because I can't think of anyone to babysit for them (they are old enough to sit quietly throughout).

... Reeves' preening????
*rolls eyes*

Film editing IS indeed an important skill, mister. And in SxS it was brilliantly employed. Too bad all you could notice of editing was Reeves' preening.
Unless... nevermind ;)
