I'm not interested in Roth's usual thing that appears to posit that people make bad decisions and terrible things happen and that people deserve what happens to them.
I don't think that's dramatic or interesting. People have innately conflicting needs and desires, and everyone makes bad decisions. There's nothing surprising in that. It can be, and often is, the heart of some great stories, but it needs to be done with a lot more skill and finesse than I have seen from Roth thus far. I am very interested in seeing Keanu play someone who's weak and whiny, because that seems very far from things he's done. | ||

From what I gather from MmeRenard's overview, Roth is interested in people who do bad things and are punished for them; meanwhile, Keanu has often expressed a fascination with how good people struggle with their dark side and sometimes get consumed by it... but then sometimes find the strength to get back into the light. Which is how it was with Man of Tai Chi. This could be an interesting combination.
