Forum Posts: 1101 Comments: 48 Reviews: 0 | becauseichooseto22, I agree with you, but this twit - who declines to permit comments and, surprisingly enough, isn't on Twitter or Facebook is beneath our contempt. He doesn't understand Keanu, he certainly doesn't understand cinema, he's just one of those pathetic, cowardly individuals who have accomplished nothing and bitterly take that out on someone who has worked enormously hard, is incredibly successful and, I believe, an all-around good man...
Please note my and Luca's careful and correct use of elipsis, a concept clearly lost on that idiot.

It didn't work here either, yesterday. :| I'm pretty sure it's a tech issue; those kinds of blogs have more than one writer, and those people generally have no control over whether or not comments work. (Plus, if they didn't want comments, they wouldn't give the option at all.)

Forum Posts: 247 Comments: 8 Reviews: 0 | I haven't watched the movie but from whatever little I have seen and read(interviews and such) it is pretty clear that the premise is very hard-hitting and its general approach and technique defies conventional film making methods. I found that to be very interesting. Even if I were to throw whatever little knowledge I have about this movie down the drain and start afresh, I have been watching his movies since I was a kid, sort of grew up with them and the ONE thing that I have learnt over the years is to NEVER EVER doubt his ability to pick the right Indies. I am going with that faith.
It's ok to not like the movie because it might stem from lack of understanding, lack of willingness to understand or lack of interest in deviating from mainstream cinema but 'worst title to every make it down the pipe'(every??!) might be taking it a little too far. Even from the little I have seen, I think its a very clever title. and oh.. If he has been so blown away by the '80's and 90's Keanu', then I'am sure he knows that its "Wyld Stallyns' and not an equestrian documentary on NGC

Forum Posts: 1101 Comments: 48 Reviews: 0 | I'm sure that's true, Anakin, but my limited experience of critics is that if they don't want to deal with pissed-off fans and those who have functional brain cells, they stay the heck off Facebook and Twitter. I think that's pretty cowardly.
Neaura, it's interesting how often I like Keanu's choices of indie films and how often I dislike indie films in general. Too often they are too dark / edgy for the sake of being dark /edgy and feel like they lack compassion because they are so focused on being dark / edgy. I should point out that I really disliked, close to hated, Generation Um... on my first viewing, because it is SO demanding of the audience. I liked it better on each viewing (much helped, I should add, by the commentaries) and now I really love it.

Forum Posts: 247 Comments: 8 Reviews: 0 | MmeRenard, I understand what you mean. Some Indie films stick to what they think are 'conventions' for such kind of films. They deliberately try to be dark, edgy and disturbing assuming that THAT is 'ART' but many indie film-makers do follow their heart. I have had the opportunity to watch a reasonable number of Indies in about 6 languages in my country (I wish I could watch more but I prefer to understand rather than read subtitles and there are way too many languages, I don't know enough :-( ). I have loved some and hated some for the very same reasons but I guess I sort of like it when a film is demanding.
Having said that, it also depends on the state of mind and the kind of situation we are in, on that particular day. It is hard to remove oneself completely from everyday issues and watch a movie for movie sake. A movie that I totally hated at first became one of my favourites after repeated viewing much like Gen Um for you :) and one that I loved, I have sworn to myself that I will never watch it again because I couldn't sleep after watching it (it was very well acted or may be too well acted). and yeah :D when it comes to Keanu, I have always loved his choice of Indies. I believe he has a great knack for identifying the good ones and they aren't all dark and broody! How I wish The Watcher had been like that too considering that's why he accepted it in the first place.

Well, i don't think any more explanations about puppy, killing, violence, blah blah are necessary. People should actually read interviews! http://www.whdh.com/story/26750468/john-wick-stars-promote-latest-action-movie http://www.cinepremiere.com.mx/39100-keanu-reeves-back-in-action.html See?! Forum Posts: 1101 Comments: 48 Reviews: 0 | I'm baffled and a little concerned about the whole campaign to show John Wick "for FREE!!!" I can't imagine that it needs that, and does cutting ticket sales before they have a chance to happen seem like a good idea?

Forum Posts: 4842 Comments: 381 Reviews: 13 | It's more PR than 47 Ronin AND MOTC put together ever got. Me, I'm happy Lionsgate goes all the way to promote the movie. And I doubt one free screening will hurt the box office. Good word-of-mouth and positive comments on social media are worth more than one free screening per big city.
MmeRenard | 2014-10-11 01:48
Forum Posts: 1101 Comments: 48 Reviews: 0 | Yeah, promotion is good. It just seems odd, I don't recall seeing other major films giving away this many screenings - maybe I just wasn't paying attention because, you know, it wasn't Keanu. Very true that the lack of publicity for 47 Ronin and MOTC was incredibly disappointing.

Forum Posts: 132 Comments: 2 Reviews: 0 | Yeah, I agree with LucaM. Good word-of-mouth is always welcome! :) And I don't think that all these free screenings will have a negative impact on JW's overall performance at the box office, it's just a PR campaign to get more people interested to actually see the movie in theaters. Hopefully it will work! *fingers crossed* Oh, but I do wish they had started EARLIER. (Sigh) P.S. http://www.advancescreenings.com/ Apparently others are doing it too. But, like you said, MmeRenard, I don't pay attention unless it's a Keanu's movie! :D

Forum Posts: 1101 Comments: 48 Reviews: 0 | That is an amazing video. Neaura! I have to wonder how many actors actually do those things. VERY intense! The plastic bag thing, though, freaked me out entirely.
neaura | 2014-10-11 20:59
Forum Posts: 247 Comments: 8 Reviews: 0 | @MmeRenard: I'm so tempted to say that the number is between -1 and 1 but I guess there are a few other actors who work hard at their stunts too :-) . This video though, made me appreciate stunt professionals so much more. I do know they work hard but this is just crazy! Did you notice the car stunt?! I couldn't figure out if anyone was in that thing!
And...KR.. for lack of better word(s) + the refusal of my totally awestruck brain to cooperate = exceptionally breathtaking @Joke:, yay!! Maybe they'll move it even MORE ahead! How great would it have been had they gone the Matrix way :-)

Forum Posts: 155 Comments: 0 Reviews: 0 | @Joke, Woo!! As Neaura said, maybe they'll move it forward some more with time. And depending on time zones, you may be seeing John Wick as I see Mockingjay Part 1, as it comes to theaters here ('murica) on Nov. 21. Please note, I don't know much about time zones. |
