It's about failed transformation. It's about dealing with disappointment. It's about finding friendship and unconditional acceptance. It's about how no matter what you're going through you find people who are in the same place as you. It's about getting fucked up and laughing through the pain. It's about self-absorption and fading beauty. It's about sex and uncontrollable desire.

It's about optimism. It's about truth. It's about the lies we tell ourselves.

It's about today. And how life could be different tomorrow.

Keanu Reeves was last spotted on the Lower East Side munching cupcakes outside Sugar Sweet Sunshine for indie flick generation Um. For a while there in 2010, the indie flick had a grip on the neighborhood, filming scenes regulary. Then, an extended silence.

Now, after two and a half years in production purgatory, a film trailer emerges. Release date for generation Um is set for May 3 in New York and Los Angeles.

Here’s a synopsis from a recent press release:

The world is downtown New York City, present day – from the point of view of a driver for an escort service. John (Keanu Reeves), a quietly sexy withdrawn guy, is finally ageing out of his young, trendy neighborhood, dealing with the beginnings of the next chapter of his life.

John’s friends are the party girls he works for – Violet (Bojana Novakovic), an unstoppable entertainer whose weathered beauty and self-proclaimed wisdom are matched only by her lack of audience; and Mia (Adelaide Clemens), the new girl with the dark past, whose traffic-stopping sensuality has brought her nothing but victimization. Both survive on their ability to manipulate men, and don’t know how to live any other way. But John, they trust. And through their relationship, all three find a comforting and humorous refuge from the downward spiral of their self-destructive but entertaining lifestyles.
