I with Luca on this one. The film has just started production and the little blurbs that have come out cannot possibly describe the whole project. I too and a completist. I've seen and own just about eveything Keanu's done. I look forward to this project as well. Simply because I am always fascinated by his choices in films and characters.

As for the sex. I say bring it on. The better visual to have at night when you're all alone in your room fantasizing:)

The one and only scene from his movies that has ever disturbed me is the end of Devil's Advocate. That blood splatter and his eyes just going blank freaks me out each and every time.

Ya'll this has been interesting, but I'm trying to figure out how you're going to discuss the thing when you don't have three sentences to put together as to content? Keanu, two actresses, a director, producer - a probable name for the thing, and the 'requisite' {friends immersed in sex drugs and R&R learning who they are and/or finding themselves} doesn't seem like quite enough for an actual discussion :D.

But hey, carry on, it'll be fun to see who wins the game once the flick comes out and we see who guessed the closest ;).

I think that this discussion has surpassed this movie's very brief vignette and mophed into a discussion about personal movie preferences. I've been hearing more and more about filmakers inserting actual sex into movies as opposed to simulated sex and the ensuing controversy. Normally sex in movies is a non issue for me, all it means is don't bring kids. Most people like seeing hot people naked. I would however rather see films move towards more meaningful stories, better effects and timely relevence than just devolve into porn to provide sensation in exchange for more money. I mean, let's face it, does society really need to lose even more collective IQ points? We're heading towards Idiocracy as it is;P

With regards to GenUm, since they've promised us "self-discovery", I sincerely hope that they deliver, though I wouldn't blame anyone for being skeptical. I don't mind if a movie is just a sex-filled good ride, as long as they are honest about it, because I hate being lied to. I don't think they should incite us to seek profoundness, symbolism and brilliance in movies where you will not find them. It just leaves you feeling empty inside. You guys are right, though, we won't know the deal until it comes out.

BTW, Inkhuldra - I really think you hit the nail on the head when you said:

being a fan of Keanu doesn't mean that you have to watch - or want to watch - everything he's ever done. I do agree that discovering his movies and seeing how he fleshes out his characters is interesting, but he's so genre-unspecific that he can easily make one movie you love and another one you hate.

I just couldn't let that one slip by.

Luca M,

Some people, like it and some people don't ;) I caught that, you clever thing, you. Thanks for inserting that. I think that's the most brilliant line ever stated . . . lol :D

p.s. When is this private screening event taking place :D

I agree with AdriannaM's last post. I like how one can use the little one knows about a Keanu movie in the making as a springboard for discussions about movies in general. Although little is known about GUm so far, I like to use that lack of info as a starting point for trying to imagine how it might turn out. When more data becomes available there will be less room for that.

I'm trying to imagine the "self-discovery" aspect of this movie, and I'd have loved to see Mann's earlier work (what little there apparently is). There are so many little-known names here, so there's not much to base any background research on.

I've been spending much time at my computer lately, holed up at home after my job went belly-up. Now I'm just sitting here, sort of twitchy and nail-biting, waiting for this little window that might be opening at the company where my colleague got work. It's driving me nuts to have to wait, so I'm glad to have this place to come to. So if anyone thinks it's silly to discuss anything based on what little we know about GUm, I'm sorry for that. If you'd rather I don't, please let me know and I'll stop.

ink - I didn't mean to say it's silly to discuss the premise of the movie based on so little information. Don't want to come across as the board police or something - far from my intentions. I only meant to say let's not jump to conclusions, let's not assume or suppose too much. Let's just wait. I mean, it's not even a first date ;) :D

Keanu on GUm:

Q: You just started filming Generation Um. How is that going?

Reeves: Two days in and it’s going great.

Q: For people that don’t know, can you talk a little bit about what it’s about?

Reeves: Yeah. It takes place over 24 hours. You follow this character named John. It’s basically the relationship between him and two call girls. He’s the driver and he ends up stealing a video camera and hanging with them in an apartment. It’s kind of about the interpersonal dynamics of this family.

OK, so now we know that much more. Two call girls and a guy with a video camera. I dunno what to say.

Well, we know he professes to not be into gratuitous sex, so maybe we can trust that he's seeing something more in this movie/script than what appears to be the obvious ;). Of course then we have to see if what he's seeing actually makes it to the finished piece :D.
