Thanks Gulbie! - 30th November is already 'taken' ;)

@robin
Do not despair - When Pippa Lee was released it seemed it was never going to be shown in Spain, but it finally was!

Wouldn't it make sense for the world premiere to be in Japan? Or is that a totally crazy idea?

Thanks Nafsunaek, I will never loose hope for any film- including GU and SBS. ;_;

@BlueGem, I think it's an excellent idea! Now, is it the reason why they haven't put the date for Japan...? Ohhh I hope so!

Atticus Ross To Score Keanu Reeves' Samurai Epic '47 Ronin'

While Atticus Ross is best known for his collaborations with Trent Reznor in Nine Inch Nails and of course on the soundtracks for “The Social Network” (which won them an Oscar) and “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo,” he has ventured out on his own on more than one occassion. He has worked close with the Hughes Brothers, scoring their TV series “Touching Evil” (alongside his wife and brother, Claudia Sarne and Leopold Ross) as well as “The Book of Eli” and Albert’s segment in “New York, I Love You.” Ross also contributed to the excellent array of talent on the “Days of Grace” soundtrack. Well, he’s once again striking out with a solo gig, and and it’s one helluva blockbuster project.

Film Music Reporter reveals that Ross will score Carl Erik Rinsch’s upcoming 3D samaurai tale “47 Ronin.” Starring Keanu Reeves, Rinko Kikuchi, Hiroyuki Sanada, Kou Shibasaki and Tadanobu Asano and penned by “Wanted” co-writer Chris Morgan, the film follows the story of the titular 47 warriors who, following the forced seppuku (ritual suicide by disembowelment) of their master after assaulting a court official, seek revenge on those who caused his death. Damn.

The addition of Ross is an intriguing one. It’s his first period movie, and it certainly suggests that though Reeves will be wearing a robe and sandals, this won’t be your ordinary samurai flick by any stretch of the imagination. The film has been kept under wraps for now, but with the November 21st release on the horizon, we’ll hopefully start seeing some images and teasers very soon.

Hmm, this sounds like the music will be more modern? I can't recall his work, but looking at his track record there areen't many period pieces in there. I hope it's not jarringly modern, that would suck.

Are any of you guys familiar with this guy?

Alls I know is that this is the guy who will be writing the music to the ritual suicide that will be breaking my heart in November.

well, from what I've read, this retelling of the 47 ronin story includes fantasy elements such as giants, shape-shifting witches and Rick the Zombie, so I honestly don't worry about the music score not being 'historically accurate'.

Not familiar with the guy and from all the listed movies I've seen only The Social Network, but I did notice its sounndtrack, it did set the mood of the movie, it was almost like a character in itself.

So I guess it's an interesting choice :)

Oh cool! I did not know this!

That's a good sign. Thanks!

On a somewhat related note, I wonder who KR is selecting to do his soundtrack. I can't wait to see his finished film, it'll be his vision and tastes completely so it should be interesting to see what he cooks up.

...I dunno about that :|

I mean, I think I get what they're trying to do there... but as the comments on that page show... it's not an inspired idea.

Must confess that marketing was not my favorite class at the uni so didn't pay much attention, but someone help me here: isn't the promotional poster supposed to lure people into the theater, rather than be a metaphor? This one could be rather the 'alternative' poster, which people could appreciate more after having seen the movie...
just typing out loud :|

@LucaM,
Thank you for the release date info! Sorry, for some reason I didn't notice your post until just now (@_@)
So it's almost a month after the US release, huh. It's going to be a perfect Christmas present for me :)

@Arya,

I liked the first promo poster.

Me too! :/

Universal Pictures has delayed its big budget Thanksgiving movie "47 Ronin" amid concerns that the 3-D film and its extensive special effects won't be ready in time.

Originally scheduled to come out Nov. 21, "47 Ronin," which stars Keanu Reeves, will instead come out Feb. 8, 2013, according to two people familiar with the matter who were not authorized to speak about it publicly.

Universal executives were concerned they would not have a trailer ready to show this summer, when theaters are packed with audiences watching similar event movies.

Originally budgeted at about $175 million, the cost of "47 Ronin" may rise as additional footage is shot and other changes are made, according to a person close to the production who was not authorized to speak publicly on the matter. While rumors are swirling in Hollywood that the movie's budget has risen to more than $200 million, the person close to the production denied that.

In a year full of enormous risks for Universal including "Battleship" and "Snow White and the Huntsman," "47 Ronin" has stood out as one of the biggest gambles. Shot in 3-D by Carl Rinsch, an accomplished music video and commercial director who had never made a studio feature film, it features an entirely Japanese cast surrounding Reeves, who has not starred in a blockbuster hit since the "Matrix" trilogy nearly a decade ago.

"47 Ronin" is a new version of a Japanese legend about a group of samurai who avenge the death of their master and then commit ritual suicide.

It was to be Universal's biggest release of the holiday season. Instead, the studio now will have no movies opening in theaters between "The Bourne Legacy" on Aug. 3 and "Les Miserables" on Dec. 14.

The only other picture scheduled to debut against "Ronin" next February is Relativity Media's "Safe Haven," an adaptation of the Nicholas Sparks novel. The second weekend of February was a huge one for Hollywood this year, with "The Vow," "Safe House," "Journey 2: The Mysterious Island" and the 3-D version of "Star Wars: Episode 1 -- The Phantom Menace" all opening successfully.
