Forum Posts: 330 Comments: 131 Reviews: 0 | I find myself wondering about the makeup possibilities with this one ; thinking about the Kabuki photo ; with a skilled talent at hand K could actually look much more oriental than some might think. Sans the over-the-top actual Kabuki of course (can't imagine that particular incarnation of K as a samurai warrior ;).
Polynesian to Japanese.. not that far of a stretch. At any rate, interested in seeing this one come to life :).

Forum Posts: 1364 Comments: 153 Reviews: 0 | Keanu's father is Hawaiian-Chinese, but I've never read anything about how much of each there's in the mix. I used to think that Sam Reeves was 50/50, but then I realized that I had never actually found any info about it.
Judging by pictures of Sam, I think he actually looks more Polynesian and less Chinese. However, I think Keanu's eyes have a more Chinese than Polynesian look to them. As LucaM says, Hiro is a "half-breed", so Keanu should fit perfectly. I wonder whether they'll do much in terms of make-up etc. to make him look even more Asian than he is. On another note, I think it's funny how many journalists have described him through the years as having "exotic cheekbones", when in fact his cheekbones aren't prominent at all. :-)

...I would so watch that movie. :|
Keanu's paternal grandmother is supposed to be the one of Chinese descent, but her name is Sarah M. Victor - not exactly a Chinese name. So she too was likely mixed, which would likely put Keanu's father at 25% Chinese or less, unless Sarah was more than half Chinese. But there's supposedly a lot of Polynesian mixed in there as well.

Yes, and I suppose that even if a person calls himself "Polynesian" he might in fact have some non-Polynesian blood in the mix, given the history of Hawaii. So Keanu's paternal grandfather, even if he's listed as "Polynesian", may have had some none-indigenous blood in him.

Forum Posts: 1364 Comments: 153 Reviews: 0 | Here's something I just found via a quick Google search. I include only the Keanu content:
I include Keanu Reeves in this column partly as a personal indulgence – we are sixth cousins. Keanu Charles Reeves (b. 1964 in Beirut, Lebanon) is half-English, three-eighths Hawaiian, and one-eighth Southern U.S. His father, Samuel Nowlin Reeves, Jr., husband of Patricia Taylor, is the son of an earlier Samuel Nowlin Reeves and Sarah Monilani Victor of Hawaii. The elder S. N. Reeves was the son of Charles Armistead Reeves of White Co., Tenn. and Honolulu, and Rose Lakalia Miguel, the latter half-Portuguese and half-Hawaiian. Charles Armistead Reeves was the son of a Sampson W. Reeves and Mary Virginia Armistead Nowlin, treated in the weak but still useful Nowlin-Stone genealogy. The parents of Mary Virginia were Armistead Shelton Nowlin and Mary E. Lanier (as in poet Sidney Lanier). Armistead Nowlin was the son of Richard Wade Nowlin and Celia Shelton, and grandson of my own forebears twice over, Bryan Ward Nowlin and Lucy Wade of Pittsylvania Co., Virginia. Elizabeth Nowlin, daughter of Bryan and Lucy, married Joseph Devin. Their children William and Lucy married, respectively, Elizabeth Croff and Richard B. Beck; and children of these last, James A. Devin and Massy F. Beck, married each other. Lucy Elizabeth Devin, daughter of James and Massy, married Willis Petree Fry, who moved from Tennessee to Texas. Mary Louise Fry, their youngest child, married John Christopher Roberts and was the mother of Jack Carl Roberts, my father (by Mary Elizabeth Boyd).

Forum Posts: 1364 Comments: 153 Reviews: 0 | Hmm, Keanu's paternal grandmother, Sarah Monilani Victor (b. Hawaii, about 1922), was the daughter of one George P. Victor and wife Lillian (surname unknown). Can't find anything about them, but none of them sound particularly Chinese.
I wonder where Keanu's Chinese genes were infused.
