I thought I'd start a general thread where we can post links to articles, interviews and video clips that we find on the net. There's a lot of stuff out there, and a small percentage may be worthy of being added to the archve.

Let's start with this one, about Constantine 2:
http://tinyurl.com/5wbmg9

And this, about Cowboy Bebop:
http://tinyurl.com/4z7k3b

TIFF press conference about Pippa Lee (may have been added already?):
http://tinyurl.com/yc9afju

And a very short TIFF video clip where two journalists discuss their best and most difficult interviews. Unfortunately there are no links to the actual interviews:

http://tinyurl.com/ybm3xo3

Lastly, I want to recommend tinyurl.com for shortening all those insanely long URLs...

"Hollywood's Top 10 Atheists", a snippet with very little Ke-content, but funny anywahs in that atheism in Hollywood is obviously an "ugly truth" that worries the religious fundamentalist/traditionalist lot in the USA:

I've actually already got the ones linked in the first post, but thanks!

"Hollywood's Top 10 Atheists", a snippet with very little Ke-content, but funny anywahs in that atheism in Hollywood is obviously an "ugly truth" that worries the religious fundamentalist/traditionalist lot in the USA:

It's actually one of my pet peeves that people feel the need to make this sort of list; it's sort of like, 'Look at all these cool people who are atheists! (or whatever other group) Don't you want to be just like them?' and there's just... something very high school clique about it. It's bad enough when individual famous people push their religious or non-religious views on others, but now there are others doing it for them?

Which kind of sucks, because I think there are lots of people who are really nice about their personal beliefs and don't feel the need to splurge them all over the place, and then someone else comes and does it on their behalf and makes them come across as kind of obnoxious, and makes them the target for backlash. There often is some degree of malice involved too, even if just a mischievous sort, because they know that it will piss some people off and they still do it any way.

Meanwhile, Keanu's never called himself an atheist. :\ Where'd they get that info? All evidence and things he's said so far point towards agnosticism, with him occasionally saying that he believed in God, but not a specific religious one, just a generic sort of higher power. In the past he's also mentioned belief in reincarnation and astrology and other things that most - admittedly not all - atheists don't believe in. So far the only thing I can think of that led to that assumption was when he was listed at celebatheists.com (he's since been shifted to the agnostic section) with the supposed evidence for this being a quote Keanu made on how he was not brought up in any religious traditions. Non-religion =/= atheism. srsly.

Oh, and they also used the exact same quote from the Constantine interview - where Keanu said that the film had made him have less doubts about heaven and hell - only that there they took it to mean that he doubted their existence more, when an in-context reading shows that it was the opposite. I found that kind of funny.

So... yeah. Keanu's always consistently not used his stardom as some soapbox for his own religious or political views, stating specifically that it was personal, and it would be nice if people could respect that. :(

It is sad, especially because the above slogan is true. Everytime I've read anything about Ke regarding religion, he answers as an agnostic.

Some of the people around here who really thump their Bibles and claim to be Christians are also some of the rudest people you've ever met.

I prefer for myself a much quieter form of spirituality. And you're right Ke's mentioned reincarnation and astrology, I remember reading that.

There was actually someone I ran across in the library, who actually had the belief that all the rain we've been getting down here is actually God punishing people for their wicked deeds.

I always thought rain was more a blessing than a curse.

Somedays I do, but these last few days..nope.

I just realized the thread's gone from religion to weather now. All 'cause of me, I'm sorry for that.

From yet another article about the private lives of pippa showing at the toronto film festival, but I hadn't read this before:

“I’m afraid I can’t answer that question until I speak to my people,” he said in response to whether he put much thought into his festival facial hair.

It's gotten pretty bad when this 'fan'-driven (I'm using fan advisedly) mania about 'bearded or not' seeps into the promo interview scene :(.

... blame it on Joaquin's (possible) prank and Letterman's attempts at superiority. and America's obsession with 'otherness' ( sorry ... but it's true)

Another little snippet off the web:

Posted by Leonard Hayhurst on 10.19.2009

Q: Hey Leonard,

Great column regarding baseball films. I've actually added quite a few to my Netflix. After thinking about it, it made me wonder: What are the greatest football movies? I've seen Any Given Sunday and Remember the Titans, two of my favorites, but secretly, I enjoy The Replacements with Keanu Reeves. Are there any other good or even decent Football films out there?

Speaking of Keanu, why does he get such a bad rep? I'll admit that some of his stuff isn't that great, but he still does some pretty good films. Little Buddha, A Scanner Darkly, The Lake House (I constantly defend it, it's a decent movie) and the first two Matrix films were good. Is it just because he's so monotone? David Duchovny is the same, but people appear to enjoy the things he does.
-Wasabi

A: A friend of mine took an acting class in college and the professor was the acting tutor for Keanu Reeves on Much Ado About Nothing. He said that she said she used to say that anyone could do Shakespeare, then she met Keanu Reeves. She doesn't say that anymore.

It's not so much the monotone delivery, as how that leads to the idea that he's dull and bland as an actor. I also wouldn't say that he's technically proficient as Laurence Olivier, but he's also a lot better than the tons of actors out there in low budget indy films and regional theater. As recent performances in Constantine and The Day the Earth Stood Still show, Reeves is learning how to make what he can do and what people's perceptions are of him work for him. He's also got a lot of turkeys on his filmography that does him no favors such as Johnny Mnemonic, Chain Reaction, The Watcher, Sweet November and Feeling Minnesota.

... it's the first time I read someone saying 'the first two Matrix movies were good' :D
so what was wrong with the third one, huh ? the ending, perhaps ? ;)

as for this line

As recent performances in Constantine and The Day the Earth Stood Still show, Reeves is learning how to make what he can do and what people's perceptions are of him work for him.

I've decided to read it as irony.
... and you just wait 'till Reeves makes Henry's Crime and shows you what he thinks of people's perceptions of him ;) :D

and the first two Matrix films were good.

I love all three, but if I have to choose, I think Revolutions is better than Reloaded. What the heck, person? /obsessive Matrix fan will step off her soapbox now.

Also:

frankly, I think this depends on 'anyone's'idea on how Shakespeare should be done ;)

but then, my personal opinion is that K should stay away from period roles, period. there's something about him that doesn't lend well to the 1600s. ( or whatever)

Yeah; probably partly due to his race. On the other hand, he's been described as the poster boy of sci-fi and futuristic films.

nah, don't think it's the race ; I didn't even register that while watching "Much Ado...". I didn't think he gave a bad performance there, either ; but then, I can't take that Brannagh extravaganza seriously. ;)

( as a side note, I couldn't help notice that in the two Shakespeare adaptations of Brannagh that I've seen - Much Ado... and Hamlet- his apparent penchant for military uniforms made him switch the story to a different time, much closer to 'our' time. And somehow it didn't really fit with the language. I liked Zeffirelli's version of Hamlet much better. It felt more... true)

But then, can't say I have preconceived notions on how Shakespeare should be played. I just watch a movie or a play. If it resonates with me, fine. if not... then it doesn't.

It's just that , for me at least, K gives 'vibes' of present and future, not past. Nothing to do with looks, but with something else I can't explain.

Another little snippie:

RYDER LIVED 'ROUGH' FOR NEW INDIE MOVIE

WINONA RYDER 'slummed it' on the set of low-budget movie THE PRIVATE LIVES OF PIPPA LEE and had to rely on co-star KEANU REEVES to get her to a coffee shop.
The actress insisted on simple comforts when she signed on for the gritty indie movie - but she had no idea how simple they'd be.

She says, "Little did I know I would be in Danbury, Connecticut, without a rental car, living off a highway.

"I had to rely on Keanu, who had the car he drives in the film, to get me to Starbucks - that's how low-budget it was."

And another little snippet, this time of the videoclip kind. Kinda explains why we're not hearing much about Cowboy Bebop yet.

http://splashpage.mtv.com/tag/cowboy-bebop

-------------------

OK, and here's some Spärhusen info. The article mentions that production for more episodes will start next month, and that Our Man is on board for them. I guess that, if Henry's Crime is indeed pushed back to the end of November, K will have plenty of time to goof around with his Spärhusen friends (and their fish).

Gawd, I should stop now, shouldn't I? But let me just add a teeeny little one before I go make myself a mug of tea:

PERFORMANCE
Point Break LIVE!- http://www.myspace.com/pointbreaklive -an absurdist stage adaptation of the 1992 Keanu Reeves/Patrick Swayze extreme-sports action flick--celebrates its second year tonight and tomorrow at 9 pm at the Dragonfly. Each night the starring role of Keanu will be played by a lucky individual selected from the audience. The play will be filmed via the "Keanu Kam" and at the end of the night, the volunteer will receive a VHS tape of his/her performance."
