Thomas Snerdley
Wonderful human being!!
He happens to be one of my least favorite actors, having given embarrassing performances in Dangerous Liaisons and Bram Stoker’s Dracula among a few other films I otherwise enjoy. (And he's been the bigger man by admitting his flaws as an actor in those roles)
But his legacy as a wonderful person in real life far outweighs any quibbles people can say about his acting. Our legacies are written by our actions when no one is looking and there can be no question that he shines like a nova star in real life.

Björn Paulsen
I once read something that caused me to reconsider this. A film critic professed frank admiration for Keanu Reeves' work. To halt the expected outcry, he metaphorically held up a hand and said, "next time you see one of his scenes where he's not alone, watch him. You see, he always leaves space for other actors to work in."
Which is, I think, both building on the theme, as well as a very nice quality for which to be known.

Russell Stewart
He's also pretty much the most visible actor in Hollywood, visible as in walking around doing stuff. I've seen him multiple times at the farmer's market. A lot of times he's on his own, no entourage, no security. For comparison, the last time I saw Johnny Depp at dinner he had a couple of giant security guys with him.

Keanu Reeves lends his voice to TIFF's poetic short film based on “The Film Prayer” helping raise public awareness around TIFF's film preservation efforts. "The Film Prayer" is a cautionary tale for projectionists which is said to have been written by A.P. Hollis in 1920. This storied document was made available to all non-theatrical film distributors to promote better handling of film and could be found inside film cans for many years.

TIFF is raising vital funds to support our acquisition of incredible 35mm film prints. A diverse collection of acclaimed homegrown and international cinema, these prints are now being revised, frame-by-frame, by our staff, then stored and archived with the utmost care. But in order to do this, we need the public’s support.

Narration by Keanu Reeves
Music by Menalon
Produced by TIFF

"THE FILM PRAYER"

I am celluloid, not steel; O God of the machine, have mercy. I front dangers whenever I travel the whirring wheels of the mechanism. Over the sprocket wheels, held tight by the idlers. I am forced by the motor's might. If a careless hand misthreads me, I have no alternative but to go to my death. If the pull on the take-up reel is too violent, I am torn to shreds. If dirt collects in the aperture, my film of beauty is streaked and marred, and I must face my beholders - a thing ashamed and bespoiled. I travel many miles in tin cans. I am tossed on heavy trucks, sideways and upside down. See that I don't become bruised and wounded beyond the power to heal. I am a delicate ribbon of film - misuse me and I disappoint thousands; cherish me, and I delight and instruct the world.

Special thanks to Deluxe Toronto and Deluxe Los Angeles

onca again at the spear-tip of something new.

taking into account the massive censorship in China - i. e. the regime's restrictions on Avatar - I really don't know if this path is doing any good. just stories for superficial entertainment and no input for thinking?

Frankly I'm not too thrilled about Rally Car, but it sounds like more of a comedy than anything else (even with the director of Taken 2 and 3) and Keanu can do comedy, even in Neon Demon ;)

As for the stories... let's just wait and see. He slid MOTC past the censorship just fine. The thinking will just have to be more subtle :)
Let's judge the stories when - if- they get told :)

Interesting - and the article does make a few good points.

Then again, this is what happened in the U.S. of A. in 2015

[...] Knock Knock, people were, distributors were like, wait a minute, Keanu fucks two girls who then say they're underage; we can't put that on 3000 screens; I'm like sure you can, because right now on Instagram, if you look at all the cast members' younger sisters, you can't tell if someone’s 15 or 25. That's what's going on in the culture now. It's that what a 15 years old girl is looking like now is very different from what a 15 years old girl looked like 25 years ago and for showing that some guy in his 40s would not be able to tell the difference and these two young girls understand how to systematically dismantle someone – because they can. Because of things that have been done to them or for whatever reason. So [...] but that very theory they thought well what if people get upset? They think we're gonna promote pedophilia? I was like what the fuck are you talking about? Well I was like well there's that whole twist at the end but that's really... people freaked out about it and went like no, this should be a movie that's VOD-ed and Xfinity-ed and I'm like why? It's a Keanu Reeves movie, this could be Fatal Attraction. But the distributors were terrified because of that one part of the movie.

So I guess what I'm trying to say is that there's some sort of censorship everywhere.

this one's for the archive.
in spite of the slight condescension.
and in spite of me disagreeing with the writer on a few points :)
it helps when a critic knows what kind of movie he watches :|
