Has anyone seen this utube video of Keanu being accosted by a couple of guys? They were berating him for 'taking the lord's name in vain'. It was taken quite recently because he had the moustache from the bad batch. Poor Keanu having to put up with such idiots. Of course he handled it with his usual grace and dignity!

rollingstone "Before shooting #KeanuReeves I was warned he could be difficult. In my experience shooting celebrities, some are and some aren’t, but I never wanted to shoot celebrities to be friends with them. It is an opportunity to photograph an interesting subject and my goal is to walk away with an interesting image. When he arrived, he didn’t say much, and after a few frames I wasn’t feeling it. I was shooting digital and pulled out my Mamiya RZ67 and asked if we could shoot some film. I felt an instant shift in his energy, so I told him why I loved the camera and still loved shooting film. I asked him to think of something he loved while I shot this image. Three frames later we were done. I don’t know what he connected to in that moment but he wasn’t being difficult and I’m glad I didn’t blow that opportunity by judging him. He gave me something interesting to work with and I can appreciate that." As told to @RollingStone by photographer @crodgersrun

Photo was taken either at TIFF 2010 or Woodstock 2010.
Photographer had no idea that at the time Side by Side was already a project in development...

There's something I was thinking about.

I've been reading up on the growing use of drones. The FAA doesn't really have a policy on how to deal with domestically owned drones. In the news I've seen several stories of civilians using their drones to peep at others in the privacy of their home. There was this one story on the ABC News, where one neighbor called the police about a drone peeping into their window, and flying into their yard. Then the police got another call, from the owner of the drone, saying that his neighbors shot his drone down.

There was a jet that nearly collided with a drone. story here.

I said this to speak about paparazzi. If one of those razzi could get their hands on a drone, then it would changed the privacy war for celebrities (like our boy Keanu Reeves) I mean, how can this be dealt with?

Neo would have fun with it: jack into its signal and make it send back Monty Python shows ('I fart in your general direction!')
Ludlow and Wick would have their own kind of fun ;)
Conor would throw empty beer cans at it.
Connie would blow smoke at it :D

good and creative answers, but paparazzi photos wouldn't exist if there wasn't a market for them, would they?

good point, but what came first the demand or the supply? The first paparazzi photo to be taken is considered a picture of Elizabeth Taylor with a guy, not her own, on a boat topless and sun bathing, and all of that. Now, no one asked for such a photo. When the photo became public, then consumers began to buy, and consume. Consumers will consume what is placed before them to consume. However, how many of us individually actually care about the private lives of these so called celebrities really?

Lol Alex would build a lake house, that would take the drone with containment and control. XD

Consumers (often) WILL consume what's put in fronnt of them, but they can also choose not to consume. That is a possibility, too.

For me, it comes down to something like the video that circulated about Keanu cursing in public - and my thought was that, if I did that, it wouldn't be "news." It hardly seems fair that something that mundane and ordinary (yes, I have said "Jesus!" in public) for the rest of us is "newsworthy" when a celebrity does it - any celebrity, certainly not only Keanu. I just find it scary and depressing that the culture has convinced us that celebrities are something other than human beings. They're mostly no better or worse than the rest of us, and I think it's nice to treat them as we ourselves would like to be treated.

This comes from the perspective of someone with 6 decades - I definitely wouldn't have felt so strongly when I was even 30.

I agree. I don't see why any of it is "news" to anyone.
I too feel a certain perturbation at this, but all I can do is control myself as much as possible.
As far as that specific incident, those guys also used foul language in that very same video. I mean, I don't like saying The Lord's name in vain either, but maybe that other person (in this case Keanu) doesn't believe in the same religion as I do. Why wag your finger at him, while you have habits that must be refined as well?

Haven't seen the video, but speaking as a Christian, I'd think that saying God's name in vain has less to do with cursing and much more to do with the kind of people who go "God says you must do X" or "God hates X" when in reality they're just using God's name to bolster their own bigotry or justification for harming others. Westboro Baptist Church, I'm looking at you. I mean, that's pretty much what taking someone's name in vain is, by definition: wantonly and freely using the power of that person's name to justify all sorts of things.

If I randomly yelled "Oh my Keanu!" whenever something bad happened, people generally wouldn't think I was being insulting. Keanu might even find it funny, or even a compliment that I'm in the habit of crying out to him in every moment of distress. If, on the other hand, I went around stealing sandwiches from people and justifying it with "Keanu wishes me to have this sandwich", then that would be using his name in vain, and he would have a lot more right to be pissed off at me. Same with God.

Right on fellow Christian, great point. People in the public eye, and...non-public eye people, just might be in a lot of trouble when it comes to privacy in at least 2yrs with these drones. there are even ways to build your own, and there is no legislation/license/limit, yet on what or who can use these things domestically. This might become some sort of Fahrenheit 451 type stuff.

People are interested in information about the persons they like and it's quite natural. I like to watch photos of Keanu which are usually taken in public places like the LAX airport, the festivals venues, etc.
Paparazzi are quite inventive and good in their job and technology only can help them (hacking computers and mobile phones, hidden cameras) and indeed, a drone could be just another tool. I think that private persons will have less possibilities to protect themselves.

"Oh my Keanu!"

... a new meme was born :|
(at least I 'm adopting it from now on. ;))

I've said it before, I'll say it again: I don't go to sites which buy photos from paps; don't give traffic to tmz.com, didn't give traffic to vlad tv or whatever it's called, either. One of the reasons I left CK many years ago was the fact that they bought paps photos.
That's all I can do. Cannot control or even influence what other people do. It won't matter to all those sites, I know. It matters to me, though.

Oh.My.Keanu!
and also
"should I have this (not-stolen) sandwich? Keanu wants me to have this sandwich!"

And yes - Westboro Baptist Church makes the Holy Spirit disgusted and sorrowful.

What good answers! And thanks, everybody. I did, I confess, watch the video of Keanu at the gas station - he was indeed being stalked by those jerks, but he seemed genuinely contrite at having offended. I don't think he would mock someone's sincere faith, that sounds very unKeanulike to me. But bogus religion - like Mia's Christian images in Generation Um... yeah, he doesn't seem to respect that, and he's right.

I agree, LucaM, I think our individual choices matter - maybe not to those sites, but to us. Pictures of celebrities - not only Keanu - who look sad because they've been cornered, trapped, stalked by paparazzi make me angry and sad.
