(a computer translation)

Keanu Reeves. Back of a mourner

He does not like interviews, he's not in the social media, and he resigned from an engagement in "Speed 2", worth $ 11 million, to play Hamlet on the stage of a provincial theatre. For the ceremony of unveiling a star in the Walk of Fame he invited only his mother and his team mate, and his most famous picture is the one on which he sits sad, eating a sandwich. Keanu Reeves is the chief introvert in Hollywood, and his latest film - an independent action film "John Wick " - reminds why.

The death of the dog. No wife or bride, even a child, and what a dog is the reason for revenge his character in "John Wick". "He was all I had," - we hear from the screen when he played the bully sets out to avenge his beloved pet. This is a warning but also a kind of an authorial declaration. Mourning for Reeves is in fact all - when it wraps, it is able to completely destroy. Coming out of this is interesting, compelling roles of a cynical lawyer in "The Devil's Advocate" (1997), an oppressive husband in "The Gift" (2000), a dying exorcist in "Constantine" (2005). His specialization remains true, however, broken undercover with the crisis of belonging – he has already played such character in "Point Break" (1991), "A Scanner Darkly" (2006) and "The Street Kings" (2008).
He does not hide here that he plays roles on the razor's edge, continuing to go into the heart of darkness, for him it is a kind of self-therapy. "The actors on the screen are often looking for an escape from reality," - he said in an interview. "I want to confront it."

Indeed, each with its gloomy roles reflects some unpleasant events of his life. "Johnny Mnemonic" (1995), an adaptation of William Gibson's cyberpunk novel, occurred when his best friend, actor River Phoenix died of an overdose of drugs. "I thought about it often during the shooting - if I could do something, somehow prevent it. It is difficult to erase it from my head." - he said. The title role of Mnemonic - a courier from the future who transfers the data to the chip implanted in the skull, which may lead to irreversible changes in the cerebral cortex - seems symbolic. Reeves' hero writhes in convulsions, unable to bear the burden - literally and metaphorically – the shipment he was burdened with.
In the mid 90s he put a signature on a contract that guaranteed him a role in "The Devil's Advocate" just after the unpleasant parting with the former partner. "I blamed myself for the breakdown of the relationship. I chickened out and a long time I could not admit it. So I was looking for a project that would squeeze me like a sponge," - he said years later. In “The Devil's Advocate” he plays a cynical careerist, for whom the family is the final proof that the remnant of humanity still smolders in. But the hero is given to absorb gloom and he ends up losing everything that is important to him - his wife and an unborn child. To properly find himself in this role Reeves was looking for a strong partner; " Demon who would know where to bite" - as he called it. When Al Pacino expressed an interest in the role of the sinister employer, Reeves agreed to lower his own salary so the studio could hire him.

In December 1999, the then actor's partner, Jennifer Syme, gave birth to a stillborn child. Reeves played then in "Observer". Playing as a serial killer whose tracking James Spader, he tried to shut out the depressing success of "The Matrix". He found out the death of his daughter before the end of the work, but he did not stop working. "He is a tough professional," - said the director Joe Charbanic. But from that moment there was nothing more to be the same. Immersed in grief, which the could not have worked together, Reeves and Syme parted. When a half years later Syme died in a car accident, the actor disappeared from public life for over a year.

Few of these several months is known, but little is known about ... the rest of his life. Reeves tightly guarded his privacy. He does not appear at the events, does not give interviews to the tabloids, and he does not confide with his problems to the accidental friends.

Scattered scraps of his statements in the Internet constitute an image of a loner, who - like a good portion of his characters - has a problem with a clear definition of its own membership. Childhood, spent in a suitcase between Sydney, New York and Toronto, got his – as an adult Keanu sought his harbour where he could settle down for a long time. At the some point, this has taken the literal dimension, because the actor bought his first the house just before the 40th birthday, shortly after the death of Syme. Previously he spent time in a variety of apartments and residences for many years and he was a tenant of the Chateau Marmont, the hotel for the stars of the infamous Sunset Boulevard.

Even roots indicate his specific detachment (from reality, template) - because even though his mother was a native Englishwoman, in the family's paternal blood flowed Hawaiian, English, Chinese, Irish and Portuguese.

Thanks to the ancestors coming from all over the world Keanu owes intriguing beauty: long face, slightly slanted eyes, high cheekbones and smooth complexion. And although the appearance qualifies him for the roles of screen lovers, as such generally falls unconvincingly. His technique or even manner of playing - flat, clipped sentences, that overexpression, sweeping, rapid movements - in scenes of great drama is sometimes caricatured and exalted. In any film that requires him to express loud emotions, from " A walk in the Clouds" (1995), "Sweet November" (2001), and "The Lake House" (2006), Reeves did not went well. In the role of good soul in love he feels clumsy and uncomfortable, but you have to give him that over the years he learned to master some manner and gestures. What in "A walk in the clouds" aroused considerable amusement, in " The Lake House" is now barely noticeable.

Initially, however, he fared very well. Starting in the 80s, he oon found himself in the industry. He did not even need a diploma, because of his long hair, narrow, piercing eyes and an intimidating smile, he successfully performed in television and independent films.

Every time I read that, they've just revealed themselves as using Wikipedia as a source. I wrote in his ancestry. And it's still dubious - I can't remember where the Irish came from.

Did some research, and apparently he might have had Irish ancestors in the 16th century. OKAY I'm deleting that from his Wikipedia ancestry. I probably had Irish ancestors in the 16th century too.

And it's his great-grandmother who was half-Portuguese, so I'm not sure if even that needs to be anywhere.

Keanu Reeves blew some minds at a Chelsea club Friday night.

Reeves was at a wrap party at the Leonora for his film, "Daughter of God."

While the bash was in full swing, a mysterious voice on a microphone interrupted the music: "Hey, Don Jonas! I found your credit card outside, come see me and I'll return it."

Turns out it was Reeves, who'd found the card on the ground.

He then continued to party with Gee Malik Linton, who directed the movie co-starring Mira Sorvino and Ana de Armas.

.... now if it were Conor ... :|
