You may object to Gryffindor, but NO ONE can argue with Mal Reynolds. :)

You could be Salazar Slytherin himself and I'd still stand up and cheer for that defense. I wish you wrote stuff like that more often, although I guess for the most part you already have elsewhere on the site. At any rate, thank you for putting it all so eloquently.

Anakin, thank you! You do have a way with words! :)
You captured exactly what I would have wanted to write but I'm not able to put it quite so eloquently and elegantly.
I’m not a diplomat so I would have put it more bluntly and say that it takes some intelligence to understand Keanu's acting.
For instance if the Matrix trilogy doesn't make you "think" and if you see it as pure entertainment then, in my humble opinion, you clearly don’t have any business commenting here.
There are professors at universities using these movies in their classes!!! (so go figure… :-))

My advice: it would be better to visit other sites. Just don't go upsetting people here when you clearly don't get it. PLEASE find some other hobby. Go and harass others, find a Ryan Gosling fan-site, for all I care.
I may not comment here very often but I visit here a lot! Don’t have the urge so much to go and write something but this time, …
Just couldn’t let this one pass!

BTW: I agree with Mme Renard too!

Thank you, Anakin, for your excellent response to someone who, I suspect, should avoid daybreak.

Bliss, "agreement" requires two or more people. I am not agreeing to disagree. I am merely disagreeing.

Thank you, Bee10.

Keanu's acting has never been conventional method acting, which is all some people (not including fine method actors, by the way) understand as "good acting." His approach is different, more subtle, often conveyed through much smaller expressions than some people can be bothered to notice. I would argue that those smaller, less obvious expressions, are how most people react to things in real life. Comparing Keanu to Hayden Christiansen, Jean Claude Van Damme, Nicholas Cage, is absurd. They have roles that span a range of a fingernail, Keanu's roles include an enormous, far more challenging range.

and furthermore, I refer you to the section of Arguments and Rebuttals in the "Defending Keanu" section. It has pictures, that might help.

Nah, not Nicolas Cage. That guy does have range, not just in genre but also acting ability from bad to good, and I like how he was the entire subject of one episode of Community that posed the question: Nicolas Cage - Good or Bad?

Although he's my father's favourite actor and I've watched a huge amount of his films as a result, so I might be biased there. He's had his share of crappy roles, but there were some great ones in the mix as well.

...but I saw The Wicker Man :-(
[edited to add...]

and Ghost Rider, 1, not 2. But yes, my feelings about Nicholas Cage are probably more about choices than acting, and he has more range and ability, in my opinion, than the other two.

I can cheerfully agree to disagree with you ;-)

Excellent decision. You missed absolutely nothing in GR 2.

I haven't seen The Wicker Man. :D

I've mostly watched his better films, I guess: Con Air, Face Off, The Family Man, The Rock...

I found GR1 entertaining. :|

Yeah, GR 1 was a decent B movie. But what does it say that The Rock and Con Air are listed among his "good" movies? Then again, 18 years later I still regret watching Leaving Las Vegas, which was supposed to be among his best.

I loved him in National Treasure, though, and I always will.

YESSS NATIONAL TREASURE :D

Con Air was good ok. :|

Was Leaving Las Vegas the one he got the Oscar for?

Yes. Not saying he didn't deserve it; just saying it's one of the toughest cinematic slogs I've ever sat through - mainly because of how it treated Elizabeth Shue's character.

I think Nicolas Cage's best role is in Adaptation. That movie changed my perception of his acting abilities. Also, he was quite funny in Raising Arizona.

Biggest problem with Nicolas Cage is that he makes a lot of movies just for the money ... and it shows.

Yep! It might not necessarily be for the money, but he does seem to just do practically any script that comes his way.

Leaving Las Vegas, Adaptation, 8MM, Briging Out the Dead... for me, those were his best performances. Con Air was Cage's 'Speed' ;) :D

But like Ani says, the man seems to practically sign in for any script thrown his way. And some of those.... no. just NO.

Anakin, the original Wicker Man c. 1973 was the best. A classic horror film. The one with NC was less than memorable. Although I did love him in "City of Angels". The article about Sarah Palin was absurd, BTW. The Anu is supposedly more in tune with Buddhism than Socialism.

There's a reason for that...he neglected to pay back taxes and has had to take just about any and every role to pay it. He lives/d a fairly high lifestyle at the same time he neglected his taxes so now...he's just trying to stay out of jail. Never piss off Uncle Sam on the big $$.

Best role? Raising Arizona. IMHO.
